I'll say one thing... it is sweet your charity jersey matches your bike so well!
Did the charity re-brand to match the Bianchi?

Now you have the Garmin1000 have you found strava yet?
Haha, they do match really well! Although that was purely coincidental!

Not using strava, I just upload my rides to Garmin connect. Not overly fussed with strava etc personally smile
Fair enough - I was just being nosy really and wondered where you'd been riding in North Wales. Some of the things I've really enjoyed about getting back into riding is following my friends on Strava and seeing what they get up to as well as monitoring my progress on the local hills etc. I don't have a garmin so I don't know what connect is, I've just been using the android app, amazing what you get for nothing.

My friend has a place not toooo far from Abergele. There are plenty of long hills! If you're ever up that way let me know and I'll send you some routes!

Bit hacked off with the receptionists at work....

Basicallyone of the types of appointments we have is called a report of findings (ROF). These are 30minute appointments whereby I explain the patient what we found, what's going wrong, what the plan of action is regards to treatment and we also start treatment on that visit. They involve a lot of talking which I find, after a while, tires me out quite a bit so I had written a message on this notice-board we have that I'd like 40mins for these appointments and to have no more than 3, 4 at the most, in a day. I have found come 3 or 4 I'm having to work quite hard to get the words out (I can still be understood but it's quite hard work) and I also get a bit of neck/headache.

So....I checked the diary for next week and there's one day where between 2 and 7pm I have....6 of them.

Not happy about that at all and genuinely concerned as to whether I can do it!

Not much I can do now though as they're already booked in but I am concerned...!! What would you guys do in this situation?

Cheers

Just have a quiet chat with the receptionists, and explain that because you had paralysed vocal chords after your operation, talking is very taxing, and could they please respect your wishes on these appointments and help you out by not booking you too many in one stint. If it happens again, I'd request that they ring the clients back and change some of the appointments in the middle of the block as they hadn't taken into account your request.

Agree with masermartin.

..and here, probably, is the problem. This is perhaps not the best way of communicating with your colleagues?

I have spoken to all 4 of the receptionists separately in the past about this issue, but nothing was written down. The noticeboard is not a physical boars but part of our booking software and so all of the receptionists will see it.

Edit - realised I said "I had" written a note.... I hadn't previously but have done so this morning.

Thanks chaps

Great to be back out on the bike now it's all back and working well again! Have done quite at over the last week or so, and about an hour or so ago just got back from a 50.2 mile ride. Legs were tired to start with so I'm pleased I still managed to do it. With a bit of extra rest beforehand and making sure I take plenty of food and energy drink on board I'm confident about the 72 miles now. Last night was feeling a bit "Hmmm, may have bitten off a bit much here" as I hadn't done many longer rides due to my hip, then the bike breaking etc so doing 50 was a bit of a boost.

hehe

Been quite a good week on the cycling front. Had last Friday off but did just over 50 miles Saturday, 20.5 miles Sunday, rested Monday, 34.5 miles (including up butser) Tuesday, yesterday I beat my record for cycling home.... 18.6 miles in 59mins and 59 seconds.... Beating the hour in true Hollywood style! Today cycled into work so another 18.6 miles but at 16.8mph.

Legs feeling tired so I'll rest tomorrow. Even wore my brain tumour support jersey today biggrin

Feeling a bit worse for wear today at work, struggling a little but I didn't sleep well at all last night.

Cheeky couple of shots of the bike taken Tuesday

Donations to www.justgiving.com/Ross-Fripp going well, will certainly hit 6k I'm sure biggrin the charity have been in regular contact and are very happy too!

I hope everyone on here is well and is able to enjoy this gorgeous weather.

Best wishes

Ross

Got appointment for speech and language therapy Wednesday 24th June at Winchester hospital. Came through the post last week. Wasn't sure whether to go for it or not because when I asked for it I could barely talk at all, but my speech has dramatically improved.... But I'm still going to go and see what they say. Can't do me any harm!

Regards my weight.... Not really going up at all. I've always been reasonably fussy on what I eat, and try not to eat too much in the way of chocolate, biscuits etc so wanted to put the weight on healthily but I'm still 7 lbs lighter than before surgery.

A mere 5ft 5in, but 8st 4-5, body fat of 6.0% and muscle mass 54.0%. Bmi around 19 so a bit on the thin side!

Rode 62.3 miles today. Felt good, except I did get hit and knocked off by a bloody car!

Driver was at fault and accepted liability, plenty of witnesses etc and they gave me their number and address etc but they're from the Netherlands so makes it tricky! They gave me £50 cash to help replace a pair of grazed shorts.

Generally I'm fine except a bit of a bruised and grazed bum to elbow.

After that, rode another 32 miles hehe

Bike seems fine I think aside a few scratches. It's going in for full service in under 2 weeks now anyway.

Glad you're okay Ross, you can definitely do without that!

Other than getting run down it's great to see your training going so well, keep it up Sir!

Close shave Ross - may be worth buying a lottery ticket tonight to capitalise on this lucky streak.

I haven't bought one since the thing was launched back in the 90's but I've chipped in this evening on account of my amazing good fortune last weekend.

Had speech and language appointment yesterday and it involved another camera down my nose.... Oh how I've missed that! Lol.

Not so good news is that my vocal cord is still not moving (well, one of them). This is now very unlikely to ever improve, or certainly go back to how it should be). This is depressing because it means I'll probably never run competitively again.

Lots of people saying it could have been worse, or that I should feel lucky etc etc. Well..... I do in that I'm still here, but I don't in that it's still pretty crap!

Anyway, another appointment for tongue next Wednesday and then another for eyes Monday 27th July! 2 days after my cycling event!

Ross, I'm not going to tell you should feel lucky, I will tell you about my running though.

I've run all my life, not competitively like you but always really pushed myself and found complete happiness doing it. Sometimes I've had lay-offs when work has been too much or more urgent issues have taken over but I always returned to it and took great comfort from the fact that it was something I would always have. Running was just "me" in some unfathomably existential way.

Then my knees started playing up.

No stress, I'm fortunate enough to have private health so I got in quick and had the keyhole surgery and it went well, I could still work and that's the most important thing for me.

I was sitting with my consultant after the op and he said "And you'll have to avoid running".
"Right" I said "What, for a few months?"
"No", he said slowly "I mean you'll have to avoid running ever again".

Now that's an odd moment isn't it? Fair enough I was 48 and you're a healthy young guy in your 20's but it still hits you just as hard.
Never again?
Ever?
Really?

So while I certainly don't think you should be feeling grateful at every moment for not being dead (it would be pretty hard to lead a normal existence if you did) unfortunately, as you progress through this wondrous journey we call life this sort of st keeps happening. The answer of course is rather mundane and ordinary, we just do other stuff that's still open to us and make the best of it.

I don't want to belittle your frustrations and you've definitely proved yourself to be way beyond my condescension but there's an awful lot of tremendous stuff you are still yet to do mate.

But not running.

It is - to use the vernacular - what it is.

Many thanks Brad. Not belittling or condescending in the slightest, it's still not a great situation! I guess it's just where I'm only 26 I'd have wanted a few more years at least!

But hey.... In really enjoying being out on the bike a lot and I'm so grateful and glad I can do that! Work is going well, and things are SO much more rosy and peachy than 6 months ago!

Cheers again!

Just a quick question Ross, How come the condition of your vocal chords affect your running but not cycling?
I would have thought they were equally strenuous excercise.
