What's wrong with me?!
Discussion
Hi guys
Nothing major to report.... Cycle ride is getting very close now but training has been going well. I've even signed up to do the New Forest 100 miles ride on 20th September just for the hell of it
The collection tin at work is full yet again (!) so I'll be emptying that tonight and paying that over to the charity. Reckon that'll take me to £6300 or more.
Seeing Geoff Stilwell tomorrow for a day full with lots of loud and very fast metal.

I have just got back from a bloody fantastic day out with Geoff. Arrived at Santa Pod at 9am and went into the hospitality suite with Geoff, who then took us for a tour around the place. Met some lovely people, Saw some fantastic cars running and was giggling like a Cheshire cat at the noise of some of the big block V8 cars!
Then came something REALLY special, arranged courtesy of Geoff. I had an experience in a 2 seater dragster! I haven't had chance to look at pics yet or upload videos etc but it was an experience I'll NEVER forget!
I did the 1/4 mile in 7.9 seconds at 167mph! It was absolutely bonkers and considerably faster than anything I've ever been in!! Half way down the dragstrip I was actually laughing! Was such a thrilling experience. After I was like a young kid "I wanna go again!"
I'll upload some more pics later but here's one of me with the legend that is Geoff himself!
Can't thank Geoff enough, a true gent!

OK let's put this into prospective.....Ross deserved it. It was quite amusing signing him in for the ride when he had to sign the medical part....no operations or defects or illnesses etc etc... But Steve who drives the 2 seater Dragster really looked after him so I can't thank him enough and his team of guys. So, Ross looked really well guys...he is doing good so you must support him on his epic 72 yes 72 mile ride in a couple of weeks. I would struggle to cycle 7 miles let alone 72. We have lots of pix of his day but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE donate anything you can for this ride.

Awesome stuff! Well done! It shouldnt be, but it is amazing how people come together in circumstances like this. It should just be the norm. It is also testament to Ross that as someone on the internet has managed to pull people into him with his spirit and outlook, and have so many rooting for him.A prince among men!

Ross, out of interest, could you see much on the dragster run or was it all a blur? What does it feel like?
You can't see a massive amount because there's someone in front of you, but you can see a bit..... But in the large part it's just a blur because it all happens so fast. What does it feel like..... Hilarious! I can't describe it really. I've been in some very fast cars over the years (quite a fee which run sub 10 to 100mph) but this was just in a totally different league to anything else I've ever experienced. The forces pushing you back are quite strong. It's just the first few seconds which are just unreal, it happens so fast. My time was 5.0seconds to 136mph!

Blimey, I just found this thread for the first time. Glad you are recovering. I feel like a fool now for feeling down due to tonsillitis.
well, tonsillitis isn't exactly fun is it (not that I've had, mind!) Last long ride before my event yesterday, 70.5 miles with 4200ft to climb.... So about the same amount of climb per mile as the 76 I'm doing next week. I felt good, averaged 16.7mph. Did another 26.4 miles today and legs were tired but not shot to bits.
I'm not going for pace next week... It's all about enjoying it, and taking in what it means for me, and making sure I get round OK!
Easy 20 miles to work tomorrow, I'll probably rest Tuesday, around 20 miles Wednesday and then rest Thursday and Friday. So close to £6500 now but not sure if that can be reached. Either way.....what an amazing amount everyone has done in donating the money! Incredible!
Just got an email from the charity....
Hi Ross,
Big and sincere apologies for not being back in touch sooner - I seem to have been running to keep up with everything of late and I'd anticipated being able to get your story up on our website way before now. But it's certainly not forgotten and I wanted to let you know that I have at least posted a news story today for your cycle this Saturday - http://www.braintumoursupport.co.uk/news/rosss-meg... - Let me know of course if there's anything there that you don't like and I'll amend it.
Our latest newsletter would normally have been out at the end of June, but having just had an office move things have been rescheduled and is now due out at the beginning of August - and you'll be featured there! And I do also still want to get your whole story onto our website as I think it has so much to give to others, so that's certainly not forgotten but I do want to do it (you!) justice, and don't want to rush it.
I hope that you're continuing to feel fitter and stronger after all you've been through, and wish you every success for Saturday - it really is a truly amazing challenge you've set yourself and I look forward to hearing how it went and, hopefully, some photographs if you can get them. Most of all I hope it makes you feel GREAT!!
Many thanks again Ross, and speak soon.
All best wishes
Bridget
Final day of cycling tomorrow before resting up Thursday and Friday before the big day. A friend of mine will take a few before and after photos.... There's a professional photographer there to take some pics during so when they come through I'll upload them. When the event is done I'll also upload my garmin connect log which will show you all the route, my time, average speed etc as well as loads of other information like distance covered, elevation gain, course profile even my average cadence!
Looking forward to it. I just hope the weather is nice!

It will hot £6500. There's over £50 in the tin at work, my surgeon has said he'll donate (he also sent me a message yesterday saying he hadn't forgotten it he wanted to read my page when he had time rather than half asleep so will do it later this week.... Plus my boss at work has also said he'll donate so it will hit £6500 which is absolutely incredible!
Can't thank you all enough, I really can't.
I've just finished reading this thread after coming across it yesterday. (Unlike some sciving buggers I'm not doing so at work but from holiday in Menorca.)
Two things I'd like to comment.
Ross contrary to what you've said you are inspirational. Your fortitude and positivity are remarkable: a lesson to all of us who may complain about our minor day to day problems and your story should also help anyone else who may be facing similar health problems.
The second is to comment on what a positive thread this is: there's do much st elsewhere on PH forums, but this demonstrates how it can be a really amazing positive thing. So many people have supported Ross through this and it has been a way for Ross to vent as needed.
Just awesome all round.
Donation coming your way.

I've read this whole thread and have nothing but respect for you.
Sounds as if you're ready for the ride, well done on the fund raising.
Thank you very much for your donation as well mate, really kind of you! Sounds as if you're ready for the ride, well done on the fund raising.
Just had another donation from my other surgeon as well which is great
I know 100% that £6500 has been reached. Awesome!
Cycled into work today but I'll be getting a lift back. That will be the last ride before Saturday as I'm having a couple of days off to rest the legs a bit as they are a little tired.
Will get some before/after shots (the during shots will be done by a photographer who takes pics of all the riders.... You can then download them a few days later) and I'll upload my garmin GPS data either Saturday evening or Sunday at some point.
I hope the weather is kind but if it's wet.... It's wet!
