Is it a case of just continually pestering the DVLA and asking them to get their arse in gear?
I did that but I don't think it did anything, I think it was almost entirely down to my MP. Mind you, it did let me let off a bit of steam and the bloke who answered the phone smile

Thanks again Crikey.

I have had an email back already saying they'd be more than happy to try and help. I ha e sent them a copy of my orthoptic letter saying I'm fine to drive and have also said both my neurosurgeons have verbally said that I'm also fine to drive and know full well that they would help me out if they can.

Not getting hopes up but it's not going to harm. I've still got Xmas set in my head, anything earlier is a bonus.

Br D - would be up for that depending on how much fuel it'd cost me! 0a lives in Scotland rofl

Would certainly give the old barge a run to blow out the cobwebs.

I'm over the moon with it! It's great.

I liked how the letter accompanying it was actually personal, rather than a generic letter. Pistonheads got a mention too biggrin

Thanks TheAngryDog

I got a message from Vas last night regarding DVLA which says....

Hi Ross, if your vision is back to normal I can not see how DVLA would stop you driving for a posterior fossa operation. This would be against their guidelines, which are published.
I will email you the guidelines so you have something to go. I will also have a word with Paul how we can go from here. Have they they already said No?
Cheers.
Vas

This is very promising. I know that I meet the criteria to drive again. Let's hope the MP can speed things up. When I get the guidelines from Vas I will send them to the MP and say that I meet the criteria to drive again and see what happens.

Not getting hopes up, it seems so close yet so far!

Have you actually had your license revoked, or surrendered it ? (Sorry if I've missed that bit) If not I think with posterior fossa it says you can drive after a month if the Doc says you're ok to (though obviously don't just take my word for it). Mine was only revoked for 12 months because they opened the middle fossa.

It was revoked. The guidelines state that for posterior fossa it is unfortunately 12 months. We shall see what happens!

Ah right, they probably changed the guideline since I last looked. I know they did shortly after I told them about my condition !

Fingers crossed for you

I'll wait until next Monday (28th) and ping another email to the MP and see if there's been any progress. That'd be 2 weeks without hearing anything but for now it's just a case of sitting tight.

Keep on at them. I phoned them earlier to see what stage my renewal was at and it's still sat in the to do pile.

This is a how they operate:

I sent the forms in back in May, they said it would take 8 weeks to sort out, so around the end of July.
I called after 6 weeks to be told it would be another 9 weeks, so around the beginning of September.
When I called today they told me it would be up to 16 weeks from when they entered all the information into their system, which wasn't until the end of July, so the due date is now towards the end of November.

Luckily I can carry on driving while they sit with there thumbs up their arses drinking coffee.

Keep on at them, and every time you contact them let your MP know about it.

That's pretty horrendous.

I did mean I'd contact the MP in 2 weeks from initial contact, not the DVLA.

The DVLA have had my application now for 9 days. It has been sent in before that "8 week" period....but do you still think it's worth calling them? I could even let them know I've contacted my MP. Is it worth you emailing me your details so I could say to the DVLA "well....this chap had a tumour taken out and was given the all-clear and you let him drive after he argued his corner, so why can't I"??

Thanks again Crikey, really appreciate all the help!!

I've actually just spoken to the DVLA. GOOD news believe it or not!

They haven't rejected it for being too early, yesterday they sent Mr Grundy a letter asking for his opinion is my fitness to drive. This should mean Vas will get the forms before he leaves which will be great! They've also sent me a letter stating they've sent Grundy one.

I've messaged Vas asking if he could let me know when he's done the forms so I know when I can begin hassling the DVLA to get a move on.

Very promising at least!

I've also sent Vas a "good luck with your new job" card. I feel it's a nice thing to do..... He's gone miles beyond what one might expect of a consultant!

Exciting times!

Already got a reply from Vas saying if they arrive before he leaves he will personally do them for me, and let me know when he's sent them back. What a hero that man is!

Still find it hilarious I'm in regular contact, using social media, with a bloody neurosurgeon!

Just replied to your PM. You most certainly are helping! If it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't be chasing things up and getting everything done that I can do myself so eagerly as I'd assume that it wouldn't make much difference. I also wouldn't have considered contacting my MP.

It also gives me further leverage into getting my licence back sooner. I doubt I'll get it befobefore December 1st but it may be possible to get something prior to that date saying "yep, you're good toto drovedrive, but only from December 1st"

Whilst I would absolutely love to be driving before then, I'd be over the moon if I can drive then!

Many thanks again
