How about a picture of one of the x-rays showing the tumour, then a picture of you at full health and happiness? I don't think an ICU picture goes well on the shelf. smile
Good call!

Go for it, it'll be very much appreciated. The christmas after my op I got my consultant and his fellow presents and some selection boxes for the consultant's kids, and while in hospital my other half kept up a steady flow of chocs and biscuits for the nursing staff smile

Thanks crikey!

I wanted to see about getting a picture of me, mum and brother together holding up a big piece of paper or something with a big "thank you" written on it.... But I'm not sure the 3 of us can get together in time for that to happen.

Less than 3 weeks until I can drive now, really not long. I've got the day off work and in just going to go for a drive for a few hours hehe

Our Daughter suffered a serious medical incident, while they were trying to save her life in ICU the man beside her had a second heart attack and died, for the next 3 hours they worked feverishly to save her, apologising all the time and unable to do anything for him, allowing his relatives to see him before he was taken away. (there was about 8 staff working on her plus a helicopter crew on standby for her and no more rooms available) .
The following day I returned to ICU, they expected to have a complaint issued over what happened, the look on their faces when I gave them a very large box of chocolates was priceless, a senior member who I gave then to said in 10 years it was the first time anyone had done that for them.
What we saw that day was both ends of life, and the teams did everything they could for both parties.

hehe Not quite, I did go for a drive but only around 45mins. Wasn't nervous at all...was just like riding a bike! It did feel great to be back behind the wheel again!

My physical licence is still yet to arrive though, hopefully will be here tomorrow.

I suppose this just about sums this thread up, in reality. Life if pretty much back to normal, bar a few small deficits I still have.

Once again, I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone on this thread who's helped me get by! You've all been utterly magnificent.

I'd like to thank you for sharing your, no doubt at times, difficult experiences and helping some of us keep our own lives in perspective.

You are an inspiration.

Now get out and enjoy that car!

Great news Ross! Enjoy mate.

It has been some ride, I'm amazed at how far you've come in such a short time. I'm sure I speak for many when I say you've earned a great deal of respect around here.

Did you give the old girl a bit of a wake up? smile

hehe

I didn't actually drive too far today as I had a few things to do. I think I drove a total of approx 30 miles max.

It isn't just the actual driving again.... It's more about what it symbolises for me. It's the last big step to normality, the last piece of the puzzle, as it were.... And getting my freedom and independence back. It's a nice feeling to say the least!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! You've been amazing to me!

Ross, with a more serious hat on, has your experience changed your outlook on life in any way? Although it sounds a bit naff, reading about this sort of thing certainly focusses my mind on what is important in life.

Absolutely, it has. I tend to value my time with my friends and family more (and keep in more regular contact with those close to me, too); I also don't bother with people who don't bother with me....I don't see the point. I don't get as stressed about smaller things any more, and realise that we generally take good health for granted.

I have had a bit of a cold and sore throat this last week (which is now almost gone) but, perhaps stupidly, thought...."it hurts when I swallow....but at least I can swallow!"

Is anyone from here going to Sunday Service on 13th December by any chance?

I'll donate another £100 to your very worthy cause when you drive me around the block in the E65 at the next PH event Ross!

All the best with getting your licence back.
Now that's genius Oa. Get your licence back Ross, get on the road and drop in on as many people from this thread as you can, I'd be more than happy to make a donation to see you turn up! Would make a great story for the charity too!
As you are back on the road again, and we've agreed a barge meet I've done the deed in anticipation.

Fantastic news.

Certainly brings a lump to the throat looking at your JG page Ross, so many wonderful, generous people.

If you have time I would love another meet up next year mate, would be a joy to go out for a hoon together (and I wouldn't mind stopping for dinner at that pub again, very nice!).
