Was this scan to decide what they are going to do or more of a check before surgery?

Would attempting to reduce the size using radiotherapy first be an option or is that not going to work given that the grey matter around it will also get a dose?
The latter. They said irrespective, the surgery will be the same but also to determine and post-op options.

Radiotherapy not a viable option before surgery, apparently for this; not sure why.

Cheers guys

Sorry I forgot about your appointment today and didn't get to wish you best of luck beforehand, but just want to add my best wishes for the future surgery etc to those of others in 1-5 bargeland.

Ok, I can see why not they said not to go running as you don't really want that moving up and down on the brain stem (assuming it does move).

Fingers crossed for the surgery smile

Ross - I was away so neglected to wish you luck beforehand, but I'm pleased that you now have visibility of what you're combating. It must be quite reassuring to know you have a brain in there too!

Anyway, fingers crossed for you chum.

I have just skim read the thread, only reading your posts after about 6 pages Ross then it dawned on me, today is the 20th! Like you said, reading from the beginning it's quite shocking, a real eye opener and sends a message to everyone, don't take anything for granted. If you feel ill get it sorted, don't just accept it.

I wish you a full and speedy recovery, hopefully all the waiting will be over soon.

Roller coaster of a story Ross that I only started reading yesterday morning. Getting to the end and finding out that you were, as I was reading, having this latest scan was a 'lump in the throat' moment. Is that a poor turn of phrase? wink

Such courage was inspiring to read.

I wish you all the best, and urge you to keep laughing when you can.

Heard nothing yesterday sadly. Literally just been sick. Been feeling rough all night, woke up at about 3:30am and haven't slept ad my stomach had been like a washing machine and it's only finally been sick.

Now I'm quite awake. As a treat, Thursday evening I ordered myself a PS4 from Amazon for when I'm off sick.... Expected delivery was Monday but tracking says it's in Southampton as of last night so if I'm really lucky it might arrive today.... Would brighten me up just a little bit!

I will call neuro-ocology department Monday late afternoon if I don't hear anything. On 1 side I don't want to "pester" them
But on the other side I want to know what's going on and I want to get this fking thing out of me!!

Thanks again for reading/listening. It's really helping me I think smile

Hi Ross, glad you're keeping it together.

Have you been talked to about the lesser potential post op side effects? Nothing major to worry about IIRC but you may not be able to drive for quite some time so talk to your GP/registrar/consultant about it. Don't volunteer any information to the DVLA without careful consideration first. Oh and DO NOT make plans for getting back to work until well after you're out - although physically you'll be well rested you may feel very tired for some time.

Report from last week came through the post. Don't like the idea of "waiting list"....I'll see what's what Monday, but he did say when I saw him that it wouldn't be very long...

Yeah you'll be on a waiting list whatever the timeframe before the op actually is.

My heart goes out to you mate. I feel ill just reading that.

My ex was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer over a year ago and it has been a hellish time for the family, especially our kids but I have to give it to her, she came through all the nasty drug treatments, chemo and radio with good humour and hopefully it's behind her now. Considering the character she was before diagnosed it has heartened me that she was able to cope so well. I suppose when the chips are getting low we just push a bit harder.

They do wonders these days and you seem a very stoic young chap and I'm sure that he will take this on and smash it.

All the best fella.

Which hopefully won't be too long!

Goldblum - I had thought of this with work. That letter has brought it home again, as it were.

My dad got all serious saying I ought to make a will etc etc. They didn't mention death hehe
