What's wrong with me?!
Discussion
As I left my phone charger there the other day I went in to collect it today but I went to M&S earlier and bought a rather nice Belgian chocolate selection box thing and a few packs of their fancy cookies and took them, as well as a thank you card, and gave it to the staff on my ward.
They were all nothing short of amazing and I think they'd appreciate it knowing that their efforts are very much appreciated!
There was one nurse there in particular I got on quite well with, I got to speak to her quite a lot in the last 2 weeks of my first admission and saw her again when I went in Tuesday and we were just chatting for a about 15mins during a not-so-busy period..... I did Develop a bit of a soft spot for her. As a guess she's probably 3-4 years younger than me. Saw her again today and we had a chat for a good 10mins or so and I said she could look me up on Facebook what's the worst that could happen, right?!

friend request accepted, might send her a message later or tomorrow.
Not a great deal of news to report from my point of view except yesterday was productive from a strength point of view. I walked 3.5 miles and later did some core work, as well as some press ups, squats etc.
I'm really eager for the eye appointment because I'd be interested to see the differences in results between the first set of tests and this time around. I suspect if there is an improvement they won't prescribe glasses based on the fact that they're improving and a lens which corrects my current visual problems won't work too well in a few more weeks down the line.

The more I think back to intensive care the more certain I am that my eyes are improving. I'm barely using the glasses now (just for reading); even watching TV I don't use them.
I still have some double vision but I remember back in ICU if I took the glasses off I remember thinking "what the fk" and my vision being really bad. Now it's just pretty bad
Can't wait for stomach peg to come out too, it'll be a godsend.
And let's keep this thread on topic
I'll say it again..... This thread had helped me an awful awful lot. My 2 closest friends have been absolutely amazing but 1 in particular isn't necessarily the best person to just talk things through. He's an amazing person and would be there for me without a doubt (and has been!) but if I just wanted to talk about my issues for quarter a while he's not always the best.... I think he struggles with knowing what to say, which is fine, some people are like that. Having this thread is a great way of expressing my feelings even if it is anonymously.
Overall I'm feeling quite positive at the moment. Things aren't perfect, some things are still improving, some things I'm not so sure (or progress is slow so barely noticeable). It's important I keep reminding myself of how I was, even a month ago, because I can then see the differences. when I first came home I was still on feeding by my stomach peg only... I couldn't really talk very well and I could barely walk in a straight line. Things are certainly better than then!

Only saw this thread this morning, and plowed through it my first couple of hours at work.
What a journey! An inspirational read, I wish you all the best and that you recovery continues as it started and that you will be back 100% soon
Can't wait to read about the date with the nurse!

The eye part is really interesting. When you say improving, does that mean it's slowly migrating to it's "neutral", straight ahead position? Or does your brain compensate and adjust how your eye "sees" (if that makes any sense at all)? If you close your good eye, can you see OK from your "bad" eye? Is it just directional control that's an issue, or has the vision failed altogether?Apologies if that's in any way insensitive, no pressure to answer - I just find it really interesting to hear a first hand account
And yeah, get a card in the post before tomorrow...

Are you sure it still works?
It's working ok, thanks for your concern but it wasn't for a while! Still not got 100% normal sensation in Lower half of my body but it's getting there I think. OpulentBob said:

I've been told by friends that my eyes are appearing more normal (my right eye wasn't in the centre when the left was, but now it's looking much more normal apparently). I've never had any trouble moving the eyes, and the muscles to move them are all fine.... It was that one of the nerves supplying one of the muscles was constantly telling it to contract a little, meaning my right eye was always at a slight angle. This is why when I purposefully moved my eyes to the extreme left or right, my peripheral vision is fine.
It doesn't matter which eye I cover, of I cover 1 eye my vision is fine (but limited peripherally, of course).
I also suffered some occasional nystagmus (that's not very nice) bit I can't recall having that recently.
Getting there slowly but surely!
