I packed in all training in January; just getting back in to it.
I'll be starting with Wendler's 5/3/1 - it's worked for me in the past.
My running has curtailed now, 10k out of the way. I'll still do the parkruns.
I played with Rip's SS a few months ago. My 3x5 puts me at just under the 1000, so single lifts should be comfortably over. Total is around 300kgs down from my PB, but time marches on, gotta stop living in the past. biggrin

What programs do you now use for all three?
It's your tricep strength that gives you a good bench?
I'm gonna start lifting again. Never be what I used to be but threads like this make me envious.
Run my own program for all 3, seems to work well for me- a pretty simple which I've been doing for about a year now. And yup, I'm all tricep for benching, close grip is markedly better than wide, which I'm trying to even out a bit.
Even though I've never really trained wide grip, I've done it a few times recently and I'm much stronger on it. I did normal, close then wide last night and despite being last I could do more reps on the same weight on wide than on close. I suspect it's probably to do with the bar only having to travel about half the distance.

Is that training though, or working out?
Well i no longer compete in anything, so i suppose i just "work out" ... although i've never really bought into the popular distinction you're making.

I dont "work out" with any less intensity or focus than i used to, it's simply that with a few notable exceptions, i'm no longer trying to add weight to my deadlift, etc. Some people might even say that a 3x body weight deadlift was ok for an almost-40-something with a desk job.....

Just because I started thinking about this earlier and have not really focussed on the big 3 for a while, I thought I'd bump this thread.

BW 90kgs - Height 5ft10

According to Jefit I'm calculated at:

Bench 101kg - I usually do dumbells though and hit a pb of 42kg per arm X5 this week so has got me wondering what barbell bench could be if I did it more often

Squats 126kg - I usually do 5 or 8 reps and keep it strict, never tried for strength really so will revisit this tonight.

Deadlifts 165kg - I have done 170 in the past when I was 78kgs and boxing 4 times a week so hopefully I can push this up fairly quickly.

Total 392kg.

I think if I trained specifically towards the 3 lifts I may already be quite close, I really dont know where I am with bench and squat in terms of actual 1rm.

I guess that the target would be to hit 120/150/185 at 90kg then try and get back down to nearer 78kg.

How is everyone getting on?

My current worksets put me at just over 1,000lbs. The ironpit near be has a wall of fame type thing, it goes up to 1,500, the owner is the only name on that bit. I reckon going for 1,250 might be a goal.

My max lifts put me at 1058 but I'm currently away from that I think.

I'll get back into strength stuff later in the year, for now I want to concentrate on hypertrophy with some focus on strength as opposed to complete focus on strength.

Currently at just over 1100 but I'll be concentrating on hypertrophy now until March 1st when I start my cut so unlikely to increase much.

What's the reasoning for not expecting progression on your main lifts while looking to add size?

Focusing on hypertrophy isn't the same as adding bulk while increasing your lifts.

Current projected 1RM using a calc puts me at 1182.5.
Not sure I trust that, but I shall keep revisiting it as time goes on. Might even do a real test one day.

Well what's the difference then? Even when focusing on hypertrophy if you're eating sufficiently to grow then your main lifts should be going up. All decent training programmes, regardless of their focus, should centre around the big lifts IMO. Unless of course you're a proper bodybuilder on a load of gear then they're probably less important.
