As a slightly serious aside... Have you really discussed this with you OH and made sure that you are 200% certain this is right for you?
I had mine done about 25 years ago because (the then) Mrs PoleDriver didn't want any more children after the 3 we had.
Move on 6 years and we split up and got divorced, she went on to meet someone else and they now have 3 more children!
I have lost 2 girlfriends because they wanted children and doctors refused to reverse the OP due to how long it had been done and my age.

IMHO THIS is what you should be worrying about rather than the very small likelihood of having a sore bk for a while! biggrin
I dont want any more kids, with anyone! That's the easy bit.

If it was a 1 in 10000 risk of chronic pain i might have a different view, but 1 in 10 scared the hell out of me - not good odds. And a proportion of these are worse than "a sore bk for a while" - it can be debilitating http://www.painaftervasectomy.org/

Oh, and just because you're ok for the first few years, doesn't mean you're in the clear, it can develop later on

I admit i probably spent far too much time reading internet horror stories.

Psychologically I had a real need to keep trying to prove my manliness for a while after.
How does this manifest itself?
Sorry , I don't really want to answer that on a public forum

This is 100% what I was edging about.

Just make sure in your own mind, that this is what YOU want.

Divorce is all so easy, and when the new young wife comes along, wanting a kiddie, than what?

You don't say? biggrin

Just remember that only 1 in 10 people will come on an internet forum to post about something good that happened, whereas 9 in 10 use it as a place to share their particular horror story. Stick that in yer stats pipe and smoke it.

My thoughts on it, were that should my wife die or we separate, I still would not want anymore children, and if this prevented a new woman in my life from persuading me that I did want more then that would be a good thing

Likewise.

I'm 43 now, and happily married, but even if that ever changes in the future, I'll not be wanting more kids. Apart from anything else, it's bloody unfair on the kids! You might not be too old to be a parent to a baby in your late 50s, but that puts you in your late 70s by the time they're off to Uni, which just seems wrong.

Just read this, had mine about 10 years ago at 45, didn’t want any more kids and if we did split up I certainly wouldn’t want any more by any other person.

I have a high tolerance to anesthetic and need lots to numb everything, dentist comments it cost him a fortune with me.

I told the doc and he said don’t worry its fine, it did wince a bit when he put the scalpel in, second jab cured it.

One thing I had was 2 nurses, one at the tackle end to help the doc and the other at my face end, with the tightest lab coat and the biggest pair of gahooners you could imagine busting out, and why are they so friendly and chatty and smell good, please god no, not now I was thinking, stay down.

Anyway I asked why she was at my face end chatting, and the answer was apparently that the males normal reaction when the old luve spuds are attacked and prodded is to sit up and slap off the assailant or to clasp your hands over them. She was there to put her hands on my shoulders to stop me clutching at the doc. Made me smile, still remember those boys to this day.

Anyway it all went to plan and don’t worry about, and tell the wife the sample only gets proper results if administered by someone else, diy isn’t good enough, hey, worked for me till she found out I was fibbing ;-)

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread, after much badgering from Mrs P and a bit of Lysistrata style blackmail I got the message and went and organised an appointment with my local NHS clinic.

I had the op this morning, and I'm now sitting here with a big bag of ice tucked down my trousers experiencing a vague throbbing. Two hours after t he op I'm wondering when the anaesthetic is going to wear off and it's really going to start hurting. Maybe I will be lucky and this is as bad as it gets. Somehow I doubt it...

I wouldn't say I enjoyed the experience at all, it's fairly humiliating and daunting stripped from the waist down and having your bits abused in a pretty serious way, but I guess I've been through worse and the long term benefits are well worth it.

The Dr had to top up the anaesthetic on one side when I yelped a bit when he got a bit rough with something. Plus I could feel a disconcerting pulse from his laser when he was doing the cauterising. But all done in about 15 mins so no great drama.

My biggest concern is that after a planning cock-up from me, I'm going to Wembley tomorrow evening to see AC/DC which could be get a bit tricky! Hopefully I should be ok to walk about a bit and have a few medicinal beers, but no mosh pit for me!

You will be fine, just don't wear boxers for a while- wear tighter pants to hold your bits in... and take painkillers.

AC/DC are the perfect band to see the day after the snip...

Don't stand in with the main crowd. You should try and get a box! smile

A cricket box, good idea! The tickets are standing only, though we might be able to access some of the lower tier seats if I need a sit down.

I've got some extra small briefs and a pair of speedos on so I feel nicely trussed up at the mo. All going well by tomorrow I should be ok.

Think when my wife comes home this evening the first thing I'll tell her is I'm never having the snip.
