yup, its:

2.4km in under 12.5 minutes

2.4km in under 10 minutes

2% incline, no headphones, and they sometimes give you a minute rest inbetween.

that's the first test.

on POC the physical bits are:

level 13 minimum on the bleep test (army is 10.2)
max press ups 2 minutes - 60 gets you max points
max sit ups in 2 minutes - 80 gets you max points
pull ups on the wood beam - 8 minimum

2.5 mile (hour and a half) endurance course, which i know i've posted it before but the chap on the right is my bro towards the end of his POC, (he failed AIB first time round so did his POC again)

Re running , what sort of running?

Ie just follow a half marathon plan/full marathon?

I'd of thought doing most your running off road would help as i'm guessing there not going to be doing much running on tarmac and make your training runs as hilly as possible would all help.
Carry about 35lbs, and wear boots would be my advice. Some speed marching will be on roads but it will be hilly.

All sounds like a nice lil circuit...but why no headphones?

Just worked it out and I do the first one in my parkrun, but the second, that sounds tough...and at 2% incline on the treadmill?
I am gonna try and give this a go this month. biggrin
It's pretty easy tbh!

I did PRMC when I was 17 and passed. Decided to go to 6th form and am now Army.

I'm massively happy with my decision.

not allowed. There is no why, it's just the rules.

If the original poster is new to running would you advice him to go straight out running in boots?

Then again looking at his profile pic either he's a boxer or doing mma so guess he must already run?

Training for long distance runs i found upping the amount of time made me think i know i can do this i know i can run for 2 or 3 hours because i've done it in training.

I would take a guess that I would have found it 'easy' at 17. I'm actually the same weight now as I was then, I do know I'm not as strong/fast/explosive/accurate/injury free as I was then. biggrin

I understand it's not allowed, and for fun for the spirit of the thing, I shall leave them off. But I would like to know the reason behind it.

you shouldnt need music for motivation, you wont have headphones on when your doing any of your training at CTC, same rules.

alot of the things I saw when I visited were old fashioned, pointless, against reason etc, but that's just how its done and they train arguably the best non special forces troops in the world.

for example the pussers issue trainers they are issued are laughably bad, with the age of modern fibers etc they are still wearing wooly jumpers and using a shoe string to make their shirt neck as tight as possible.

I had to listen to one of my snobby customers go on about his son who's been accepted as an officer in the RM. He was going on like his son was some kind of superhero and "his men" (even though he doesn't have a platoon yet) are inferior to the officers.

Utter bell end.

I remember my brother telling me about officers when he was in the RM and they sounded like a bunch of typical posh tts with no clue!
I doubt it's changed.

I am no expert by any means.
The reality is though that he will have to carry heavy loads long distances wearing boots and carrying a rifle. It may be better to start gradually as you say.

I run a lot along the hilly coastal paths in devon down near Lympstone. You often see RM guys down there running or walking with heavy backpacks. Most are running in normal running gear though, I expect they are just RM guys having a run as opposed to some kind of selection.

I once saw them doing an exercise where they set off in pairs. When each pair got to a town ( Budleigh Salterton I think) the bloke in charge waiting for them helped them with their backpacks whilst they went to the toilet or got a drink. After they had gone he put heavy rocks from the beach in their back packs and then helped them back on again as they set off for the next waypoint. If anyone joins up, check your gear after a stop. hehe

I dont doubt the posh comment, About half of sandhurst went to private school, and would suspect the same is for RM officers, but 'no clue' is a bit harsh. Im sure when officers go off and command troops they are a little green.

8000 troops, 800 officers
troop training is 36 weeks, officer training is 15 months.
unlike the army the commando tests for RM officers are a bit harder:

The endurance course is 73 minutes for troops, 72 for officers
The assault course is 13 minutes for troops, 12 for officers
The 30 miler is 8 hours for troops, and 7 for officers - who do it alone rather than as a troop following a instructor.

I find the services hierarchy thing very strange.
As I got onto the train at Exeter (before doing my POC) , a guy offered to help me with my bags; he was clearly RM (not an officer) and I was dressed in smart casuals.
Then we got called "sir" the whole time and had full on silver service style food!

Same in OTC too; it's sort of the TA but for potential officers (the pay was very handy as I was a super skint student!). We were only allowed in the officers mess (not the naafi) and again we got called sir; often by guys with years of Army experience!

As a lowly student who just happened to be quite fit, I found it all rather odd!

All the ones I know are sharp, high performing, very fit, articulate switched on individuals. They certainly weren't the thickos and no hopers at school or university who couldn't do anything else.

Was your brother an officer? The days of rich people in the forces buying a commission ended a while ago. hehe

The POC is a test to make sure you're fit enough.
The AIB makes sure you're bright enough - anyone that's an officer has at least three A levels but more likely a degree. The RM training programme (you are still being "selected" well into the training) ensures you have plenty of common sense too.

RM Officers may be many things but posh thickos isn't one of them.

its 5 GCSE's and 2 A Levels

I suppose alot of private schools have CCF and hence see it as a career from an early age (they recruit hard form these too), hence more officers from those backgrounds. There are 19 RM ccf sections, the school we were at Kings being one, in the same town as 40 commando. There are 3 guys on officer training at the moment from Kings, 2 last year etc etc..

"Because you're not fking Cliff Richard or Olivia Newton John, so square away the fking walkman and no more bone questions from you or you'll be on a fking charge, now double away, lef ri lef ri lef ri...."

Is the reason.
