This does seem like a good way to ramp up the veg you eat. I find it easy to get protein in the diet but often only have a decent veg portion in one of my daily meals. A juice to start the day sounds an easy way to get some extra in?
Only the nutrients but not the roughage which is supposed to prevent bowel cancer.
Sure - but i eat lots of oats, brown rice, fruits and nuts for snacks (i make my own protein bars packed with all these)

And I'd still have normal veg - I'm just thinking it seems an easy way to boost the supply?

For example...one of my regular meals is tuna, bit of mayo on a couple of ryveta......sure, I could add a load of steam veg but that would take ages to chew through compared to a juice when its just a mid morning meal.
Then why not. Extra nutrients for you! smile

I have a 'masticating' juicer - ooo errr - which has the facility to chomp stuff into a kind of pesto rather than split juice and pulp.

With this I make herb pesto to top fish or meat, using 1/2 a bag of raw spinach, a good bunch of parsley or basil (or any fresh herbs), plus a squeeze of lemon and a splash of olive oil.

This was recommended to me as a good way of getting the benefits of the green stuff without having to chomp through bags of salad. I like it.

Juicer ordered!

Also like the look of the vitamix.....mega blender that goes so fast it heats the result into a soup.

Video on youtube of a guy chucking in a bunch of veg, blending for 5 mins and then pouring out a hot soup! Seems a nice snack....maybe thats just because its cold and soup is yummy in winter!!!

check that out - NOTHING is wasted!

I like the idea of a juice a day to maximise vits, etc....but the odd veg soup sounds great too!

Only down side - those vitamix blenders and BIG money (for a blender)

The proof will be in the pudding (well, juice). A while ago I was drinking a pint of veg juice every morning. It is time consuming to make, and this was a period where work was crap and I was at home for weeks on end.

I started it before breakfast, but soon realised that I didn't need to eat after the juice; it kept me full until lunchtime. I ate my usual diet apart from breakfast and continued to go to the gym as usual and trained just as hard.

The days that I didn't have the juice I really missed it.

The important thing for me was that both my wife and I felt so much better for having it. It is like getting a great dump of nutrients without chewing your way through two or three carrots, a couple of beetroots, a chunk of broccoli, a handful of spinach, a parsnip and whatever else I had bought. And they tasted great.

We also ate our usual amount of veg with food and lots of brown rice and other roughage so missed out on nothing.

But honestly, we both felt better on the juice. I just wish that I had time to do it now, although as that would mean that work was once again crap I am not really complaining!

I got a centrifugal juicer earlier this year but found the amount of pulp that it generated just from one juice to compost (waste) or try & do something with & the time to clean it all properly was a real pain.
I've ended up with an omniblend which is a similar beast to the vitamix but a chunk of cash cheaper, still an investment but is multifunctional & has been extremely handy for doing hot soups, food processor duties & juices! & now no waste. Personally I've found its been worth the extra investment with the other stuff I use it for.
I prep everything the night before into the jug, store overnight in the fridge & then blend & rinse clean in the morning before work & I stay fairly full all morning, I tried doing a 3 day juice diet but missed chewing.

Is the information in this thread still current?

I am fed up of all the pulp cleaning on my current juicer. I like the idea of everything going into the drink and the soup option is awesome.
Looking on Amazon, I can get a Blendtec Total for around £360-£380. Is that a good option, or have other blenders come on the market since this thread was created?

Ha. I was about to reply with the same after reading the previous post. It's expensive but everything is used.

If you are going to buy it look at this deal.

Its unfortunate they don't include the protein powder or the seaweed powder anymore in the able deal but its still a good deal.

I bought the pro vitamix from costco, they had a demonstration on so it was a bit less then usual, £385. Awesome blender.
