booted up MFP a couple of weeks back. I was hitting 98kgs on the scales. Dropped almost 3kgs in a little over 2 weeks from sorting my diet, keeping up my training and doing more manual work during my day.

I have just less than 4 weeks before I go away and trying to get under 90kgs. Hill sprints this weekend. smile

I no longer take any supplements other than a cell volumiser - AAKG. I was bored with years of C and energy supplements and discovered the greatest training enhancer was my brain. Second best was L Arginine, which uses the same pathways and has the same (nearly) effect as nitric oxide. However if you're periodising correctly (i.e. cycles of growth - strength/power - rest) I would suggest C for the strength phases.
Anyone who hasn't tried AAKG for a growth phase should prepare to be shocked when they do. Funnily enough it's also excellent for your heart.
I've never even heard of AAKG. I don't normally bother with anything outside of whey and creatine but I will give that a go. Cheers.

Reading the benefits, I'm suprised at a few of those. Will look at investing in AAKG, it does suggest it goes well with a nitric oxide supp though smile

The wiki article isn't too favourable.

Oh please! One reference is to a study that only lasted 7 days and the other examines the effect AAKG has on muscular endurance - which it is not what we want it for anyway. I have made it clear it should be taken during the growth cycle. It also looks at bp - I could locate loads of papers that find to the contrary if I could be bothered. Wiki makes no mention of the sample size or significance of result in either the second or third paper either. Not having a go honestly but if you want real information look up journals yourself and bear in mind if you use wiki the information found there is simply someone's version of how they choose to read and apply research results found in journals - just like I've done above. smile

Interestingly acute AAKG supplementation has been linked with increased gh production and protein synthesis.
Jeevanandam M, Petersen SR. Substrate fuel kinetics in enterally fed trauma patients supplemented with Arginine alpha ketoglutarate. Clin Nutr 1999 Aug;18(4):209-17.
Cochard A, Guilhermet R, Bonneau M. Plasma growth hormone (GH), insulin and amino acid responses to arginine with or without aspartic acid in pigs. Effect of the dose. Reprod Nutr Dev 1998 May-Jun;38(3):331-43.

Ultimately it's up to your style of training. If you train intensely, quite heavy and medium reps AAKG will give you a pump like you wouldn't believe. Vasodilation (opening all the blood vessels wide) is accomplished quite easily with no negative side effects. It has been suggested this function also helps in the removal of plaques (cholesterol etc) from the bloodstream, i.e. it helps fight atheroschlerosis. Obviously this also increases the effective delivery of other volumisers such as creatine.

Impressive. Probably leads to problems in the household.

Mum: Go tidy your room!
Her: No!
Mum: Oh, ok, I'll do it.

Reminds me of when I was younger and my mum used to cane me. I'd pretend it hurts but to be honest I was doing conditioning for kung fu so I put myself through more pain than she ever could. biggrin

Being smacked by a lump of wood as a kid never did me any harm. wobble

Load for 48 hrs and then take at breakfast and 40 minutes before training. I hope you find some benefit from them, remember to keep them to medium-ish rep days. Looking forward to your report. smile

What do you recommend for loading?
The description suggested 1 tab upon wake up, one before work out and one after.
Take 1-3 on non work out days upon waking up

For loading I'd just take the daily dose for 48hrs without exercising. Doesn't really matter if you don't you'll still notice the difference.
If I was you I'd take 2x1000mg at breakfast and the same 40 mins before exercising.

I'm currently on about 1500mg twice a day, but as you're a few stones heavier If I was you I'd up it to 2x1000 x2.

Just a few hehe
Cheers I'll do that then, I did think about having a higher dose as I'm bigger but wasn't sure what. Just got to wait for it now......

Yeah it's easy stuff to experiment with - get the dosage right and you'll see the difference immediately.

I actually have some AAKG I think somewhere, so I'll give it another shot.

Just been for a mile jog with some hill sprints. Ugh I really hate running.
