2 PB this evening.

6x 85kg on my last set of bench.
Added 5kg onto my sets (x10) of dips.

Question. (A physics one, probably)

120kg on a machine similar to this, and I'm straining and struggling.

300kg on a machine like this, and I'm bored and wondering what's for lunch.

How come?

I'm going to take a wild guess...

First one is a true 120kg where as the angle on the 2nd one doesn't give a true 300kg?

Last 2 sessions have been excellent for me biggrin

I've worked up to my opening weights for log and axle deadlift (from 12") and hit them both with ease!

Can't put the weight up as my competition knows I post here biggrin but will upload the vid from comp obviously smile

1 week this Saturday and I've never felt so good for a comp! thumbup

I found the same! We have the proper plate loaded machine at my gym, but when I went to the leisure centre with the wife they have the top machine and I casually put 180 kg on to warm up, couldn't move the bd!! Looked like a right plank.

Ok, I saw two 20 something males doing deadlifts. Warmed up with maybe 120kg then started loading. A quick glance suggests they only started failing when they approach maybe 180kg+. Great work, of course. Snag is, they look like they can only deadlift 70kg if you get what I mean - athletic but skinny. I'd be damned disappointed. Sure, their goal is probably strength over physique but if they're shifting heavy loads then surely they'd not be bothered about getting bulky.

Depends, there's u85 and u95kg categories in strongman, something similar in powerlifing I think too.
Maybe they know fk all about nutrition?

From what ive seen in the gym size doesnt mean a great deal, ive seen skinny people lift fairly heavy stuff and also seen big people struggle to lift not so heavy stuff.

Yeah, I've noticed that but never seen someone so slim lifting that amount of weight before.

Just a bit disappointing, you know?

It's been a long time since I've posted in here, but I thought I'd update

Another complete newbie (I figured that if I post in here, I've set myself a sort of challenge!)

In september last year I was 18st, I managed to lose about a stone in the runup to christmas, but put some of that back on (a holiday didn't help much either)

Currently at 17st 3, height is 6ft 3 & my upper body strength is embarrassingly poor.

Aim is to get to 16st, lose the gut, be able to benchpress 100kg and at least be able to look half decent for the summer!
Well, benching 100kg isn't going to happen any time soon! (although I am doing a fair bit more weight in all things than I was doing at the start of the year) - the big one however is weight. I wanted to get down to 16st - I'm now currently 15st 12lbs which I am properly chuffed with!

Still got a fair way to go though, 15 & a half is my next target.

Couple of weeks ago I deadlifted 230kg @ 87-88kg BW, really chuffed! Yesterday repped 185kgx13 which was very painful indeed! laugh

The lb for lb strongest deadlifter in the world looks like a 12 year old boy.

I do, but if you look at the big movers, he is the exception in terms of body shape.

Perk up, I knackered my back last night doing deads and have failed the leg raise test for a herniated disc frown

Feck. Get well soon.

That's the problem with heavy lifting - injuries seem more likely even if you aim for good form.

I'm hoping it's nothing serious, just going to do some decompression work and try not to sit at my desk for too long.

Mark Rippetoe seems to think that decompression along with light deadlifts and squats (with perfect form) is key, but I'll see how I'm feeling next week.
