Do you feel you can gain strength on a calorie deficit btw?
Sorry missed that question

My rate of progress seems to be the same whether i'm eating 2000, 3000, or 4000 calories a day. I'm beginning to think i'm one of those people with a very low potential.... i do have very small bones for someone my height (nearly 6 foot, 6" wrists 8" ankles)

Oh well, you can only work with what you've got! I shall persevere

hehe
x2 rofl

although if he can do 300kg pulldowns, and weighs 150kg he aught to be able to do a muscle-up.... which would essentially make him a gorilla?

Does he have a hairy silver back i wonder

Thanks for the rest of the advice too. My PT says I need 180g of protein per day, but I just find I'm eating too much (would like to lose a bit of weight - about a stone - round my middle too!)

Today I ate:

Breakfast
08.00 Muesli and 500 ml skimmed milk - 27g

10.30 Protein bar - 16g

13.30 Rye bread, cheese, chicken breast - 37g

16.00 Boiled egg - 13g

18.30 Tuna pasta - 50g

Total - 143g

And I know I've eaten too much today!

I exercise between 12 and 1.30; just thought that a protein shake instead of a mug of tea with my lunch may assist.
I am going to have to rant a bit now, apologies in advance.

What the fk is it with these people - claim they want to lose weight, then follow the 12-meals-a-day bodybuilding bullst.

Insulin stops the mobilisation of free fatty acids from fat cells. Stops. it. dead. You cannot burn fat in the presence of insulin. It's basic physiology.

If you eat that frequently, you will have insulin floating about all the bloody time.

If you want to lose fat, stop fking eating every 2 bloody hours!!!!!

Body builders have been doing fine with this approach for years, long before IF'ing and such like came on the scene. And if anyone knows how to cut fat, it's a BB.
Most of them are on steroids/prohormones, they are no use whatsoever - free fatty acid mobilisation is ALL about hormones - you cant use bodybuilders that are running running 100x the normal testosterone levels as evidence.

Saw a holiday show this week. Star ratings don't relate to how nice a place it is but to amenities available, and there's no standardised system either!! biggrin
Yeah probably about 8% tongue out

Unfortunately not a holiday. Was quite fun having a driver and a body guard though. But yeah, i thought it only went up to 5 stars..... kind of like the hotel equivalent of multi-blade razors

Well I was hoping the running would just burn some fat off, is it normal to have muscle loss too?

Got another 5kg on deadlift tonight.
Id assume so yeah, since growin muscle and running counter act each other. Seems like whatever your doing is the correct combo for you so stick at it if its working.

I couldnt run this morning, The Mrs wouldnt let me put my trainers in the dryer lol.

Depends on the individual, but when i do any kind of endurance work i lose about 80% muscle and 20% fat.

Don't think it'll make that much difference.

My main issue would be that you're about to bulk whereas I'm about to cut for summer!
I thought you were above all that cutting/bulking flip-flop bullst?!

It work any better than a slow recomp unless you are juicing. Change <> progress.

Don't be jealous just because you have the same propensity to build muscle as a 12 year old anorexic girl (aka Hoofy) tongue out

But seriously, I do a bulk/cut cycle because I don't think I have the will power to stick to a diet 12 months of the year. I don't mind eating a super strict diet for 5 months throughout summer but to do it all year round would piss me off and I don't think I'd stick to it anyway.
Your logic is flawed.

I dont bulk and cut because by not bulking in the first place i NEVER have to diet. I couldnt diet for 5 months like you do, seems like a long time and i can see why it would annoy you!

Also i dont build any extra muscle on a bulk (the size is an illusion caused by intramuscular fat) so it's doubly pointless for me

For good definition you need to be 8-10% bf and that's no fun to walk around at long term.

I'm off to bed hungry again in a bit.
Nonsense! It's a hell of a lot easier than putting on muscle (after the first couple of years)

I havent been above 8-9% in 2 years, no cardio, never hungry, no effort

Ha. I don't disagree.
You should disagree. Cardio has very different effects on you and I versus these big fellas - you'll end up looking like Bradley Wiggins

FFS. Another angle?
No, just pointing out the obvious! Someone like Smiffy can lose weight (fat) doing cardio and retain a lot of his muscle - he's a naturally big bloke. You are not, and you need to be very very careful with cardio unless you want to metabolise all the muscle you've worked to build. I get my best results doing virtually no cardio whatsoever, and i can set my strength gains back 6 months in 2-3 weeks if i overdo it.

BCAA supplementation if you're worried about reaching a catabolic state via cardio. I reckon they work for me.
Yes, for very low intensity cardio.

For endurance/medium intensity and above BCAAs are not very good for you (increased ammonia, screws your liver). BCAAs are best reserved for fasted resistance training IMO

That was in the back of my mind but I didn't want to expand the conversation even further!
I think pilchardthecat means 'catabolise'? The speed with which muscle is catabolised depends on the amount of fat someone carries - not muscle. No one is going to use muscle for fuel unless they're living in Africa and trying to run a marathon in 100c heat. You don't do enough exercise - even in your dreams Hoofy - to worry about going into starvation mode. laugh
How big your fat reserves are is a factor in gluconeogenesis, but genetic predisposition has the greater influence.

Face it, you just spend half your gym time posing in the mirror hoping other blokes admire your abs. Ya poofta.
No i spent half my gym time letching at lycra-clad milf. It's the only reason i use a poncy lifestyle gym with tennis courts tongue out
