Is it a flash in the pan? There are now two! crossfit gyms in my little town.
Two? Huh?

I'll probably join one of them or the puregym next.

Will there be turf wars? I bet the first box coach was cross but fit.

Given that it's mainly women who attend, it's not such a bad idea. Before one of my classes, I used to video women doing aerobics see what kind of people attended the aerobics class.

I find myself attending Pilates classes, including one today for some reason!? biggrin

Given my stubborn refusal to dance I'm not sure attending Zumba would be a top manoeuvre.

I try to avoid any movements that involve hyper-extending, especially shoulders, so tricep dips are out which I used to enjoy, shame!

Crossfit is the jack of all trades and master of none. If you want size, strength, power or endurance (anaerobic or aerobic) there are scientifically proven training regimes used by Olympians and world champions in every discipline that can be applied. There is no Crossfit instructor to any British Olympic Team, nor to any elite sportspeople that I've heard of. Believe me if those guys had anything to gain from Crossfit, they'd be using it. That's not to say some don't meddle, but they'd be foolish to play with injury when their career depends on good health.

Not sure why you posted the above, no one in this thread has made claims that crossfit isn't a jack of all trades, or that there aren't other ways to better improve size, strength, power or endurance. And the "no crossfit instructor to any british olympic team" comment is very odd.

With the aid of the link he posted I think he is trying to say that cross fit is exercise for the sake of exercise, it's not formulated in a way that's going take you to your goals like a prescribed training program will. Not necessarily a bad thing, some people just want to do some exercise! Move about a bit and have a good time doing it. Nowt wrong with getting people active !

Not sure why you can't remember your own post but you posted this rubbish in reply to a criticism of Crossfit:

The injury rate for CrossFit is similar to weightlifting, powerlifting and gymnastics.

The implication is that the sports mentioned are comparable.

There are weightlifting, powerlifting and gymnastic instructors but no Crossfit. I'm merely comparing like for like - as you did above.

You're arguing against claims that no ones made.

Do you have any better evidence of the injury rate for crossfit then?

I'd guess there are no crossfit instructors fir Olympic events cos all those events are specific and of singular skilled. Whereas Xfit isn't. So why even fking mention Olympics!

Is it not the point that, throwing heavy metal about whilst becoming potentially less co-ordinated as "cardio" fatigue sets in, may result in poorer form, hence the injuries that occur?

I think their point was that S&C is a generic skill and S&C coaches end up being recruited to train people in specific sports. For instance, I watched an interview with an S&C coach who works with Andy Murray. (Incidentally, he highly recommends the deadlift.) Conversely, you'd only recruit a Crossfit coach to train you if you never wanted to compete again. wink

I do think they get a bad rap, though, as a lot of the exercises they practice are used by Olympians eg I've seen a video of Usain Bolt training with hang cleans.
