My OH had an operation on Saturday and needed a general anaestetic. The operation was to remove a lump from her breast.

Since then she has felt really quite rough; she has passed out a couple of times including today in a pub when an ambulance was called. They wanted to admit her but she refused. She is at home now.

She was extremely anxious leading up to the opreation and I think that may be half the problem. She may have also done a bit too much today as she is still quite sore around her breast and down her side.

Is it possible that the anaestetic is still in her system and is causing problems or will this have all gone now? Has anybody suffered in a similar way?

Thanks.

I haven't any relevant experience, but just wanted to mention that if a medical professional wanted to admit me to hospital then in spite of the fact it's no fun I'd be inclined to go along with it

I think her body is telling her to slow down a little and take some time to recover both physically and emotionally, has she still got a drain in situ or was it a lumpectomy?

There's a reason why you aren't allowed to drive home after GA... so yes, there may still be anaesthetic in her body. Plus she's probably taking painkillers which can make her drowsy.

takes a good while for the body to get back to normal ish its had a shock both mental physically easy for others to say but a visit back to hospital would be advised, in my view could have even been a panic attack!!! nasty things for those who just start to experience them, best of luck I use one of these finger oxygen meters show the amount in the system too little could cause fainting im no doctor just going on lifes experiences as I once said to my mates wife.. im no gynaecologist but im happy to take a look lol take care

I would suggest if she passes out again, then call the ambulance out and actually tell her that she needs to go into hospital to be monitored and perhaps be given some sort of drugs to help her healing process along.

I have had a number of operations and a couple of times i have still been out of it the next day, one time it took me about a week to have a clear head and be able to remember things properly and actually function like normal.

but thats because i asked for some gas and air before the op, and I asked for the gas to be turned up because it was not doing anything, so about 10-15 seconds after it got turned up i passed out cos it was too high hehe and then the profopol on top of that really did a number on me.

tell her to take it easy and rest up for a few days, it will not really do her any good going out and trying to do too much straight after an GA OP

Im no expert but rather than the anesthetic itself theres probably some other mental and physical stress going on around the surgery and illness too leading to her not sleeping properly for a few days

This would maybe make her ill, she needs to take it easy, catch up on the sleep lost in the 1-2 nights after the op and recharge her batteries

Best of luck
