Anyone else have trouble after disrupting their sleeping pattern with heavy drinking and being up till early hours and what the hell can I do to sort myself out

I was out on Sunday night/had a few mates round and I'll be honest the drinking was a bit excessive. Sunday night (well day) I managed to sleep somewhat because I was so hungover, but whereas I'm normally asleep by 2-3am after a night out and up at a normal time and just power through it, I was in bed all day. Cut to Monday night and I laid in bed from 11-3.30 tossing and turning before I got any sleep whatsoever before work yesterday.

I thought I'd be okay last night but was pretty much just as bad. I ended up driving to tesco at 1.30am to get some "sleep aid" tablets I'd read about, which just made me very drowsy but not particularly more sleepy. By this point I'm just getting horrendously frustrated and anxious.

I can't afford to have another night like that tonight, desperately need to get my normal pattern back. What can I try and do? I feel like maybe doing some exercise will help and drinking lots of water. I know taking pills to make you sleep kind of masks the problem but I could really do with something that'll just knock me out for a night, can anyone recommend another over the counter remedy or is it GP time?

I've not had exteneded problems but recently I've found myself waking early after a session, usually around 7:00. In the past I wouldn't have stirred until gone 10:00. Not very helpful sorry

The only cure I found was exercise. Go for a long run and then drink plenty of fluids to rehydrate. Hanging round the house and worrying about not being able to sleep just makes things worse!

I must admit I've barely exercised recently but a few months back I was regularly running 3-4 times a week and I'd be asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Thinking a good run and sweat it out might do me some good, thing is I don't feel like I have enough energy to bloody run. It's a bloody horrendous feeling being this tired but not actually able to sleep.

Yeah, might be dehydration that's making you feel too uncomfortable to sleep properly. Rehydrate during the day, of course, otherwise you'll be up all night in the toilet.

Also, avoid silly things with Red Bull in them as that probably messes with your sleeping.

I was told it's a massive sugar crash, especially if you've been on the wine. I really try not to drink at all on a school night now because it messes my sleep up so badly.
