Not sure how long ago yours was done but they don't use a scalpel any more. They certainly didn't with me. Once I was numb I honestly didn't feel a thing.

Erm. What?
I didn’t think it was very appropriate for the surgeon.

How else is the hole made?

Non-scalpel vasectomy is described at a high level here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/vasect...

Someone on this thread must've mentioned the smell, which is a cross between burnt bacon and the dentists when he's got the drill out...

there are so many stories about guys having long term pain from this its nuts (get it!) to risk it.....even now, months on, i get the odd twinge. If that were a routine pain (as it seems to be for some) it would drive me mad.

not worth doing anything until you are 100%
Speaking to a consultant gynaecologist I was told that it’s worse for men to be sterilised than women and this long term pain is very common but as the procedure is less for men this fact is often missed out.

Had mine done 7 years ago and had severe pain for years. Like a dull ache in your nuts. Still get the odd twinge which bends you double in pain but this has become less and less over the years.

Best thing I ever did. Took 10 mins max, probably less as I did it privately and the Dr was like a man possessed "get em in and get em out" like on a production line to maximise his income.

Two things I remember most of all:

1 - The nurse whose only job was to hold my cock out the way. In a day she must have hung on to 30+ cocks. That said, mine had "gone home" so didn't need to be wrestled out the way much.

2 - I went outside and stood at the roadside waiting for the lift home (I expected 30 mins, I was in and out in 10). I walked slowly to the appointed meeting place. A car went by with some youths in it. One decided to stick his head out and spit at me as it went by. Absolutely incensed with rage I legged it full pelt to the red light 300yds up the road to beat the st out of him. Even after all that I didn't feel to bad.

All the women at work had big smiles on their faces whenever they saw me as I hobbled around to get maximum sympathy even though I was all right even though the nut sack was black for a few weeks.

Seriously just do it. I went private simply so I could get it done with quickly instead of months of fretting.

As others have said your Mrs has had kids. Man up and just do it.

Yup, I echo this. I’ve mentioned it here before I think.
I’m now 5 years in, still have pain in my left nut. Ranges from a dull ache to horrific ‘just been kicked in the nuts’ pain. I have to be careful when drying after a shower and wearing jeans can be uncomfortable.
I’ve had an ultrasound and more examinations than I care to count and the doctors are clueless. It’s so bad I’m actually contemplating paying private to have my nut removed.

That said 4 years after the snip me and the wife split... so being single with no risk of more babies has had its bonuses hehe

Tbf though I wouldn’t say it’s that common. I’ve got loads of friends who’ve had the op, along with myself, and this is the first time I’ve heard this.
I feel your pain though (not literally though!)

Agree with Stuart ... had mine done about 15 years ago, no issues after the first few weeks. I was most disappointed that my Mrs didn't want to help me out on knocking one out, regularly, to clean the pipes, as it were... anyway, I digress: mates have since had the snip and had no discomfort after the first couple of days. Dr tells you upfront that it's best to wear some Speedos or a pair of pants (not boxers, a size too small, for a few days, then you should be ok. smile

I know people who've had the odd early complication but I don't know of anyone who's had long term issues.

Had mine done 9.20 this morning, was back in the car heading home at 9.40 (wife driving, not me!).

Injecting the anesthetic stings a bit (no worse than any other injection/blood test really but seems worse because of where it is). What did sting a bit was when the doc started and quickly realised the anesthetic hadn't taken! I nearly shot through the wall! Needed 3 jabs in the end.

Laid on the bed when I got home and for the first couple of hours it felt like I'd just been caught in the knackers by a football. It's now 6 hours after getting home and it just feels pretty tender, especially after walking to the kitchen for a cuppa. Perfect excuse to be waited on and watch box sets!

As already mentioned, it really is the thought that is worse than the actual op.
So after a weekend with my feet up, 3 days working and home and yesterday and today in the office, I currently feel like I was kicked in the nuts about 5 minutes ago. Constantly. Which is slightly better than yesterday so going in the right direction.

I think I might be binge-watching another boxset this weekend... well, there's got to be some immediate perks from having this done!

Yeah agree. Mine took 45 mins but i’d take 45 mins of this over 45 mins of dental work

2 kids later and its time for me to become a Jaffa, I am hoping to get it done in the beginning of the year. Is it just a case of booking an appointment with the doctor to get the ball (balls rolling)?

I really don't want to have to explain to the highly medically qualified reception staff as to why I want to see my doctor. I am pretty nervous about it to be fair and seem to laugh everytime I think about it.

How much roughly would it cost to have my privates snipped going private? sperm

I just told the receptionist it was private. Said what I wanted to the GP (well, actually, the nurse, I'm not convinced we have any actual doctors at my surgery), and she tapped the referral into the computer. I then had a 5 minute meeting with the doctor who was performing the procedure to confirm I understood it was not reversible etc. Being 39 with 2 kids he didn't question it, but assume he would if I was in my 20s and/or didn't have kids).

From memory I waited 3 months between seeing the GP and seeing the doctor, then another 4 weeks until the procedure.

Had mine done about 5 years ago, weirdest part of it all was having a normal conversation with the 2 old women doing it about the Army and normal day to day stuff while they were pulling my bits around.

That and handing a pot of recently shot sperm to the same lab assistant twice was a bit weird!

No long term issues apart from the odd dull ache very rarely perhaps once every 6 months, feels a bit like you have strained a ball but doesn't last long

I do wonder why they question it. I'm 34 and two kids and they asked 'are you really sure?'

It's not like the country is short of people!
