I like the thread title! at last someone who gets close to what he really wants! so many of these threads are titled 'I want to lose x stones/pounds/kgs etc etc

I am confused as to why most of the advice to the OP centres on how to lose weight, why do they think that should be the goal? a number on a scale is largely irrelevant isn't it? Personally, I am not bothered if my scale says 180 pounds or 170 so long as the mirror, the stop watch and the gym numbers tell a good story.

Not a week goes by without someone telling me how they lost x in y weeks, I congratulate them of course but more often than not I am secretly thinking one of the following:

'Wow, you look exactly the same but smaller.'
'You should have put 10 pounds on, it would have suited you better'
'You dieted too fast, you look like sh**'

What exercise should you be doing? weights?, steady state cardio?, HIIT?, some form of circuit training? the answer is usually; yes, yes, yes, yes.

What should you eat? I can't say, I don't know what you look like. I suggest you find someone local who knows their stuff and get advice. It will pay dividends in the long run and you will learn lots - Best of luck.

Whilst I agree 100% with regard to the meaninglessness of scale numbers, I would argue that most of the advice to the OP with regard to reducing calorie intake is entirely relevant as it will lower body fat- which I took to be exactly what the OP was after:

"Fit but want to lose fat around waist... how?"

It's probably just that the phrase 'losing weight' is still often used in the wrong context- i.e. to cover the whole myriad of positive body composition changes.

Hello folks, a serious bit of resurrection here - but wanted to report back on the sound advice in the thread. I've (finally) got MFP and paid close attention for 2 months, and now down a stone and knocked 90 seconds off my best 5k time. Wanting to get down another half stone to lose the small remaining muffin top - but the laser focus on calories has really paid off, rather than notionally eating a healthy diet and exercising loads. I've put some free weights on my Xmas list and planning to shake my regime up again in the new year.

Thanks all, Kris
