Am I right in thinking ibuprofen should be the one to go for?
Any options?

Who for? how old etc.

I am sure the Medics on here can help. Or ask your Pharmacist

Max doses in most cases for Paracetamol is 4g in 24 hours and Ibuprofen around 1200mg to 1600mg in 24 hours.

Your regimen at adult dose could be an overdose quite easily.

In the case of paracetamol this is very bad.

6hrly dosing for paracetamol and 8hrly for Ibuprofen is what we use in hospital.

Paracetamol is better antipyrexic (brings temp down) Ibuprofen not so good.

^^^^ what he said.

2-hourly paracetamol at full dose will quickly nuke your liver. Don't exceed the recommended adult doses and reduce if you're frail/underweight. Split the timings of ibuprofen and paracetamol so you have cover through the day if you want but otherwise follow the advice above.

thanks, although by the looks of it he's taking 4/hrly pracetamol giving a 24hr total of 6g instead of 4g. I have heard cases of POD at 6g in susceptible people. And the end stage of POD is liver transplant of course.

like I said, very bad

Keep hydrated, drink green tea or yellow bark tea if you can find it.

Eat soup, make sure you have fruit and veg if you can stomach them, your body is generating heat so is likely to be burning more calories than normal so make sure you eat/take in calories.

Warm bath/shower will make you feel better too.

Remember that your body is generating this heat for a reason and your immune system should be allowed to do its work,

as always its best to go see your doctor.

If he's on antibiotics then would you not assume he's already been to his doctors already?

Doctor referred me to a specialist who I have an appointment with on Monday. But the antibiotics run out tomorrow. I just need to get though the weekend.

Sorry, should have added: "Up to the max daily dose" as I find I don't need wake up to dose once I'm asleep wink

Note to self: Don't assume PHers will by default stick to the recommended adult doses...

I'd go for the good old fashioned wet flannel on the forehead or back of the neck. Certainly makes you feel better if nothing else.
