For the last 2-3 weeks I've started getting stiff joints - mainly the knees, back, ankle and shoulders.
(Was quite awkward getting out of bed this morning)

Just wondering if there's any recommendations for a supplement to take?
Thought about cod liver oil.

Would rather have some form of natural remedy rather than NSAID's, and it's not something I think I should be bothering my GP with.

Thanks.

Any kind of fish oil is supposed to be good for the joints.
I use MP Fish Oil Capsules so there is no bad taste (unless you burp...).

Agreed - Omega 3 Fish Oil Capsules from Holland & Barratt. My joints used to crack and ache and after taking these for a few months, joints seem to be getting much better.

I don't suffer from joint issues but take these two daily; High Strength Cod Liver Oil and Vitamin D3 - maybe they're why I have no problems? Dunno.

Consider some Cissus as well

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=ci...

I use animal pax flex and it works but it is quite expensive

Thanks all.

I'll try the fishy stuff first and if it doesn't help I'll go onto the scientific concoctions posted above.

So you would rather try lots of unproven supplements / potential quack treatments first, rather than going to the GP and getting any serious pathology ruled out? Seems like backwards logic to me. confused

FWIW I have been taking Omega 3 fish oils , and Vitamin D and notice no difference in joint cracking or aches and pains, despite correcting a proven deficiency in vitamin D.

Too much omega 3 oils gives me headaches and fishy burps and Cod liver oil in high amounts can give excessive vitamin A, and is not really a great source of vitamin D either.

Then natures aid stuff linked to above is Cod liver oil. The stuff I linked to is Omega 3 oil.

The difference is the CLO contains less omega 3 fatty acids, also the pack size is small, 180 tablets vs 250.

But yes it is damn expensive and in fairness you can buy the same stuff cheaper on Amazon. Holland and Barrett is a bit over priced generally.

Twice the price per cap but three per day vs one. Six times the price for similar EPA & DHA though?

Soz - going off-topic.

Cheaper on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/High-Strength-Omega-1000mg...

edit:
some people do claim vitamin D is good for pain and stiffness. Glucosamine could be an option for the OP too?

I'm putting it down to the onset of age at the moment, and not some pathological condition wink

NSAID's do my gut no good - I don't even take tablets for headaches.
Had foot surgery several years ago with immense pain and the pain killers I had made me feel very ill.
Never again.

I'll give the supplements 3 months and if no better I'll see the doc (probably take that long for a routine appt anyway..)

Most supplements for joints are completely unproven

Totally 'bother' your GP with this - this isn't a trivial self-limiting ignorable symptom.

Thanks, you're worrying me now with words like that.
Could it be linked to the occasional numb feeling fingers, I wonder?

No idea. Probably not although I'm sure the internet will give you 15 different scary potential diagnoses to fret about if you look hard enough. smile

Mention the numbness too, it's a legit thing to take to the docs and then THEY can do the job of sussing out whether it's linked or indeed worrying or not. Is it only since the weather got cold? Cos at risk of stating the bloody obvious, a lot of bedrooms get pretty chilly at this time of year and nobody's put their heating on yet.

I'll never use the Internet to diagnose anything - it seems you're either dying or going to live to be 120.

The numbness can strike at anytime - today whilst painting a door in the sun for example.
Can affect both hands / fingers and the bedroom is fine temp wise.

Looking back, this is almost coinciding with me using the rowing machine on a regular basis.
Perhaps I'm over exercising?

OP are you wearing the same pair of shoes every day? if so are they worn or saggy as poor footwear can cause these symptoms.

Well, I could do with a new pair of work boots yes.

I also have to wear custom insoles due to the ballsed-up foot op I had a few years ago. (And they actually work to relieve the pain in my right foot).

Related I suppose but when I stay in a fixed position whether sitting or lying for a decent amount of time, it hurts when I get up - all over the legs. Legs are fine if I am running around a court for 2 hours though. Old age or too much exercise?
