At least be honest when commenting.

How many times in a 30 year career would an A&E nurse cannulate a child in cardiac arrest? Leaving aside whether it is beneficial. It's indicated and an available as an option.
in 4 years working in all ages A+Es i've cannulated a handful of peri-arrest paeds

That's pressure to me.

bit of a circular argument over that ,

again a diversion from the topic of hand - especially given the butt headed ignorance of the Ambulance service lay managmeent over ECP recruitment - apparently it's impossibly hard to teach A+E Nurses the content of the Green Book and a D2 driving course but simple to teach Paramedics skills they have had little or no experience of and limited exposure to and expect them to function effectively with limited training and supervision ...

Blimey.... Even a thread about missing a vein can turn into angst these days on PH....smile

Might be worth pointing out that the person doing the OP's injection, shouldn't really have been under that much pressurebiggrin it was a planned procedure after all

I don't blame the nurse in the least. I'm just very angry withe the doctor, he saw that the cannula wasn't in correctly when he injected the sedation and all the fluid went into my flesh (painfully) resulting in a lump. He tried to stroke the lump to disperse the fluid knowing it wasn't in the vein, but he still injected another two, then carried on with the treatment as he was running late, he said he was short of time. Great!

Yes - your cannula tissued. It should be flushed at insertion prior to drugs being put down it.

Occasionally we don't quite get them right first time.

Don't take it personally. Some patients are harder than others.

Please stop with the cannula willy-swinging - unless you've worked in level 3 neonates, i'm not interested.

This sort of stuff shouldn't happen and I can understand now why you're suitably cheesed off - it doesn't take long to replace a cannula and do a proper job.
