In the normal course of things, all of a new born babies vitamins and immunity that they require comes from the mother. However, if there is a difficult birth, for example a prolonged delivery, forceps delivery, where the baby is in distress (Isabelle had all 3) vitamin k helps by preventing brain haemmoragh and bleeding and bruising. In addition, the liver function of the healthiest newborns is ok, at best. Vitamin k also helps with the Absorption and processing of Billirubin. Too much billirubin will shut the liver down very quickly. The most obvious sign is 'yellow/browning of the skin' billirubin anaemia is a very serious yet easily treated condition.
Before, with BRA...
And 2 weeks later...
And 4 months in...
Treated with Vit K. The palor of the skin is noticeably different.
Hope this helps?
