Actually I can understand that. The first lot of silicon my optician (yes DKL that's you) recommended really stung my eyes.

I tried a couple of others and settled on Bausch & Lomb. I do buy online (much to DKLs annoyance) as they have been faultless for me but I understand it's not for everyone, I'm just impressed you can still wear GP as I couldn't anymore.

i have worn lenses for over thirty years . i have glasses for emergencies.

only ever experienced issues with dust when i wore gas permeables . never had any problems with dailies when i was doing house refurbs , i did all the work , every trade , plenty of dust.

Can I ask why you still are? I wore gas permeable for 15 years until 2007 and they got the prescription wrong and I tried soft for the first time whilst awaiting replacements. That and I went snowboarding and thought soft might be better.

I never wore those replacement gas permeables, the soft were daily disposables and I've since changed 6 months ago to silicon monthlies (although I can sleep in them I take them out and give my eyes a rest once a week) and my eyes are so much better for it. I was happy with gas permeable, but sorts are something else!

Because I find the very comfortable (dust can be an issue, but pop them into your month for a quick wash)

and, my experiences of soft lenses have been dreadful. I cannot get on with them, poor vision etc

Soft daily disposable lenses for me.

Never had a problem in all the years I've worn them and they've certainly got better over the years.

The first few times you try and put them in it will be difficult,after a while you will manage it first time.

Gas Permeables from the mid 80's, then changed to softs around '98 or thereabouts. GP lenses gave excellent sharp vision, but were a pain when you got an eyelash under the edge, which has almost never been a problem with soft lenses, so the days of having to flick a lens out, stick it in your mouth and give it a 'rinse' are now long gone. so glad I changed to softs.

Now found that the best compromise for me are Acuvue Oasys for Astygmatism two-weekly lenses.

Don't forget the importance of solutions. Was using Renu, changed to Bausch & Lomb Bio true, and the difference was noticeable.

I don't inhabit dusty environments but imagine if I did, and didn't have astigmatic eyes I'd consider Dailies instead.

Try a few more. Honestly, I remember the mouth wash ease, but never having to do it is better! My eyes became less bloodshot too and I didn't think they were bloodshot.

I'm on Acuvue Trueye dailies. They're expensive but the comfort levels for my prolonged wear are brilliant. I'm generally wearing them from 7am to 11pm and they only start to dry if I'm really really tired.

I sometimes struggle abroad with them. I'd guess it's a combination of sea air and warmer climate. Glasses are for Sunday's when I don't get up to much.

Been thinking about saving a few quid and going back to fortnightly but I'm not sure I can be bothered. They used to split quite often when I used them.

Contacts every time. I wear daily disposables - but only one, in my dominant eye, despite both eyes being short-sighted.

Good for sport, good in the rain.... relatively inexpensive given how costly a decent pair of spectacles cost. Plus, you can wear decent sunglasses in the summer.
