I tend to get quite sore knees - usually at the very top. The reason I think tendonitis is that I suffer with golfers elbow (tendonitis on the inside of the elbow) and it feels quite similar in sensation - plus the general area the pain is in.

Last week doing squats I felt a brief pain in my left knee so I stopped. It wasn't bad, but felt like it could have got worse, so I stopped.

Went out drinking at the weekend, woke up 2 days later and my knees were so sore and painful - again the top. I didn't bang them or anything. Probably the worst they've felt. frown

If I sit for long periods like driving I keep feeling like I need to stretch my legs out as I get a dull ache at the top of my knees. Bending down with my knees to pick things up they do feel very tight and stiff.

As I've said, I do get knee pain from time to time - nothing that stops me doing daily activities, just they often feel uncomfortable and sitting with legs bent for too long does generally cause me aches.

Does anyone know much about quadriceps tendonitis or put up with persistent pain in the knees regularly? I don't mind putting up with it at the moment, it's more annoying than anything, I just don't really want to damage anything further.

Another thing - if you get tendonitis anyway in other parts of the body, are you prone to get it elsewhere or are they completely isolated? I'm just wondering if it's genetic.

How do you squat currently, narrow feet and knees way out in front? If so, what about widening the stance and getting the hips more involved like a lot of powerlifters do, to take the strain off the knees?

Hi bud, I generally squat pretty wide! I rarely get pain squatting - not sure what happened last week on my left knee - I was supersetting squats with DB lunges so wasn't going heavy - I think I just had my knee(s) too far over my feet that time. I don't think what I have now is to do with that. That was a sharp pull on/in my knee. This is more like a radiating ache from the top of my knees!

I see vastly more patella femoral pain than quadriceps tendinitis

In fact I can't remember the last time I saw someone with quads tendon problems. It's got a very good blood supply and doesn't get the problems that some tendons and tendon insertions suffer.

You need to see a musculoskeletal specialist if it doesn't settle easily.

Thanks, might try and book an appt with work's health care and see what they say. It's been playing up a lot in the last week. Sitting down driving for more than 10-15 mins is pretty painful unless I can put the seat right back to stretch my legs.

It could be ITBS, I was treated by a physio for over a year as a patella tendinitis, changed physio and straight away they diagnosed me with ITBS and I got the right treatment I needed albeit I still have a lot of knee issues. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliotibial_band_syn...
