Your future mobility could be at stake but it's your decision

More to the point just where do you get the time to do this?

The OP's not a distance runner, and as you know training for swimming and distance running is completely different. Plenty of swimmers lift very heavy for short sets.

On another note what the article doesn't say is that most distance runners have a higher than average slow twitch fibre % so even if they could lift 5x heavy and work fast twitch fibres it would make no difference.

Runnersworld is very good for general running stuff but it's not the place to pick up serious physiological advice.
I think we are talking cross-purposes here.

I took the point to mean high reps is a bit pointless.

I know a few people who cycle back and forth to work (and it's quite a distance) then they fit in a workout during their lunch break or in the evening. It doesn't seem to do them any harm.

I train three times per day, 6 days per week.

45 mins strength training followed by 30 mins power walk in the morning.

45 minute boxing pads/bags in the afternoon.

10 mile cycle plus hypertrophic weights session in the evening.

The only thing to be aware of is listen gin to your body; there will be days when you don't feel like training...so don't.

You should be working out more than 3 times a day.

hehe

I also think the overtraining thing is overused. Unless you're the kind of maniac who just keeps stubbornly going at it even when your body is telling you to take a break, you'll be fine I reckon.

Depends if its for performance or weight-loss.

You'll be absolutely fine if your primary goal is weight-loss, but I'd be very careful if its for performance as its likely you will find there are more efficient ways to train.
