I'm trying not to be a smart ass but find it interesting that intelligent people come on thread like this saying I'm 5 ft 8 and weigh 16 stone plus. I'm not sure why. Where do I start. Take that cake out of your pie hole and start moving a but more hehe I've been fat before. I didn't wonder why. The copious drinking, pizza and puddings for 5 years with no exercise may have been the culprit. What you are really saying is stopping doing what I love..(face stuffing) is hard and it is. I need some help with motivation. People are fat because they have no will power and are lazy little piggys. You must do exercise or you will never beat the belly.

Wrong. You can beat the belly through dieting alone.

Without exercise you will find if very tough long term. A tiny number keep the weight off. With exercise you can eat a lot more and keep it off.

Thats all very well but that's not what you said. You were trying to be smart whilst making an incorrect statement yourself. rolleyes

I think this thread has been fairly sensible and I do not recall anyone saying "I am fat and I have no idea why"...

I'm 5'10 and have been developing a belly the last year or two. I'm pretty sure a nutritionist would think my diet horrendous as it's basically lots of beige stuff and meat. Oh and at least 2l of Coke a day. And at least 6 bags of crisps, I could live off crisps. It's been like that for 10+ years and I'm really not sure how I'm not twice the size I am (83kg at the last count).

But this week I've stripped out the Coke almost completely. Now on Coke Zero which I'm sure isn't exactly good for me but it's 800+ calories less every day.

Question is if everything else stays the same will I lose weight, and specifically from the problem area or do I need to be exercising more as well? I'm a right lazy bd.

Well I take back what I said above (joking)
Well done on the first few steps towards losing the belly. As burwood says, it will be massively easier to drop weight if you exercise as well. Small steps. 1hr walks in evening. Try some cycling. Play a sport if you have a friend to play with and if you don't join a club and get involved. This is much more fun that just going to the gym.
We cannot tell if changing Coke alone is enough to make you lose weight! But I think you know what to do really if you're serious. Drink water only and eat properly.

[/quote]I know, but it's boring as hell. I'm patting myself on the back for now. I might weigh and measure myself, give it a week or two and see if 800 fewer calories makes any difference.

A question I have been wondering about for a while, if coke zero and the like have no calories apart from the crap that's in it being not good for you,is there any weight loss benefit in drinking water instead?

You can work out if removing Coke will equal a weight drop. A pound of fat is 3,500 cals. Dai
Y coke was 800 right. Work out your BMR and get a rough caloric intake. You said you are gaining weight albeit slowly. I gain very slowly as my BMR is 3'500 which is quite a bit of food.

Fair question.
I am no nutritionist but I believe there is added benefits of drinking water...

and so on.

I am sure coke zero along with a good diet and plenty of exercise would get you in good shape also!

Reading with interest.

Me: 36 years old, 5 foot 9,currently 13.5 stone, would rather be 11.5 (max). I've put the a stone and a bit on over the last 6 months living in a hotel - basically every meal, morning noon and night is a restaurant meal. Very rich. And also quite a lot of beer. And I look and feel awful, to be honest - it's all round my belly, love handles and I've now got an arse like a Nigerian woman. The GF won't be very impressed.

Exercise is difficult - broken bones in the past mean my right knee and ankle are pretty much fked, I can walk a long way but running and cycling hurt a lot very quickly. Also got a damaged right wrist which plays up very quickly when cycling. An exercise bike would be ok but any sort of bumps in the road have me wincing.

Going home in the next week and plan to start light breakfasts - those breakfast biscuits for example - some fruit for lunch, and something basic for dinner, chicken salad, maybe soup and a roll, that sort of thing, and the booze will stop altogether. Also going to go for a walk every evening, do a good few km at a decent pace.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

There is plenty of irrefutable evidence that plenty of water, maintaining hydration has a positive affect on weight loss. Dehydration will hamper.

Not being cheeky here but I have literally no idea what you mean.

I weighed myself at 82.5 and am 5'10(and a half!). According to the NHS chart I just looked at I've just crept into overweight, as in if I was half an inch taller I'd still be fine so I'm not exactly a fat fker. Not sure how though.

BMR 1831.03

This is all a bit complicated for me. I'll stay off the Coke and try to get out on the bike a bit and walk to the shops instead of taking the car. That should do it.

Problem with BMR is that it's the daily burn if you stay in bed.

I should have said adjusted to the amount of energy I expend whilst not in bed hehe most fitness apps will work this out for you.

Find it interesting that intelligent people come on thread like this sayin me BMR is 3500 which it is completely incorrect.
