Fair point but I have no intention of stopping drinking forever more not - as I have one stag do and a 35th birthday party in the next month can I not drink (physically could but I want to celebrate the occasion along with everyone else).
Maybe following the month I could try to bi weekly drinking so twice a month (unless something comes up out of the ordinary ). That's a huge reduction 12 days on the beer down to 2 at the very least 72 pints of beer down to 12 every month.
I give up, were you bored this afternoon and thought that you'd ask for advice and then chuck the sensible stuff back in peoples faces just for a giggle? Yeah this is pointless.
OP you may as well be saying 'I'll cut down from 72 chocolate doughnuts a month to 12 a month'. Calories are probably the same.
You are never gonna lose weight. I suspect you have tried and failed many times which is why you have been looking at nonsense diet pills.

I don't know why people are concerned so much about the drinking, clearly its a part of your life so just cut it down to 2 nights at the weekend and you will be fine, although there needs to be a level of mitigation - two nights on the beer means you really need to pay the price and get at least 4-5 quality workouts in the 7 day period.
Cut back on the carbs during the week as well, no orange juice and don't go overboard on the fruit either. Portion control is very important and with carbs especially so, no more than a fist sized portion of anything.
This is what I do, I drink at the weekend and I always have a glass of wine with my dinner in the week as well. I am 50yrs old and put on weight really easy. But I am currently moving the weight down ready for spring/summer. So long as I am lucky with injuries/health then I always end up in decent shape.
Weigh yourself the same time every week and ensure you lose at least a pound, if not then simply test and adjust diet and/or exercise and go again for the next week.

I agree with this - its just a matter of moderation. I haven't gone tee-total (though I have cut back) and I haven't given up carbs (I love carbs) - its just being sensible with in take. If I fancy fish and chips or know I am off to the pub for a couple that evening, I will make sure I get my arse out on the bike for longer - I guess I cycle for 15-20 hours a month in total (250 miles give or take). I have been dropping weight just fine.Cut back on the carbs during the week as well, no orange juice and don't go overboard on the fruit either. I know I went on a little dramatically about it earlier - but to be honest the big difference has been 1). no snacking in the day - being peckish wont kill me - and 2). eating a sensible amount rather than stuffing my face at meal time.
Easy.

Of course I can but electing not to - as totally stopping from what id call reasonable consumption to cold turkey is very bad for you you need to throttle back to nothing over a period of three weeks to a month.
Fella, people have offered you some very good advice here (ignoring the idiots who suggested drugs) and if you took their advice you'd probably lose the fat that you're after losing. But posting rubbish like the comment above does you no favours and people will treat you like an idiot and you don't want that.....do you?I took the good advice from very knowledgable people on here a while ago.
I was weight training but not losing too much weight - still had my belly. I thought I was on a calorie-defecit diet, but once put on the right track by people who know more than me, I realised I wasn't! I was taking CLA capsules, Green Tea capsules, Milk Thistle, Turmeric etc. None of this will help in any way if you're still consuming more calories than you're burning!
I downloaded My Fitness pal and tracked my diet. It has worked so well that I have lost more weight than I thought possible (This time last year, I was around 15.5 stone, now, I am under 11.5 stone now - and most of that weight has come off since taking advice on here and using MFP)
The only healthy way you will lose weight is if you eat less calories than you burn, ditch processed food and eat mainly wholefoods - and a little exercise on a regular basis. Rasberry Ketones really will not help...

I don't give up on people lightly but im out, OP clearly not reading any of good advice in this thread. OP is just after reassurance that its not his fault, its glandular (or whatever else bullst) and that the answer is some magic tablet...
The simple advice in this thread is EAT/DRINK LESS, how can that be so difficult to understand, how is it going straight over the OPs head...
ETA - Just remembered, its half term.

Going back to your original question, my wife bought some rasberry keytones from a local health food shop and they have worked as an appetite suppressant.
Whether or not this is just a placebo I couldn't say, but my wife was the queen of snackers and it has helped her stop this.
That's great if it works for your wife, but I don't think it'll stop the OP drinking.Whether or not this is just a placebo I couldn't say, but my wife was the queen of snackers and it has helped her stop this.
Clearly the liquid intake is a significant portion of the calorie count...but if you don't want to change that....what else.
I'd suggest your portion control is part of the problem.
Practical advice : Whatever plates/bowls you use at home, go buy abother one that is 2/3 or half the size. It will cost you less than a pint of beer (so have one less this week ;-)). Eat the same stuff, but only load your new plate to the same proportion you filled the big one (relatively speaking). Be honest with yourself. You will reduce your intake of your evening meal by 33-50%.
If your not even willing to control portion size whilst eating the same stuff...you have a dream that will never be realized so you might aswell give up now :-)
good luck

So first weekend into this "thing" and I've decided not to have any booze --- normally I'd have had 18 beers and a few bottles of wine over the course of the weekend.
Feeling? Um ok actually no withdrawals nothing.
Wales v France next weekend though can I keep it up? I'll try or if I do have some just have 4 beers in total over the weekend.
Fist sized portions of food - hmm still trying and the wife brings in lovely meals spending hours making it its difficult to not finish it as its superb. Again work in progress.

You didn't mention the wine in your OP. You're consuming about a week's worth of calories in booze per month. There's the answer, right there.Feeling? Um ok actually no withdrawals nothing.

Why would you? Wait till next weekend. It's hard but it's worth it. Your body/brain hasn't registered yet that its 'fix' hasn't been delivered.Feeling? Um ok actually no withdrawals nothing.

Not a fist sized whole meal! good god man you will waste away.Fist sized protein portion.and fist sized carb source (potato,, rice, pasta etc) but only if you must; add green veg to your hearts content.

Don't forget to eat slowly and enjoy what you're having - it sounds like good grub - it'll give your gut time to notice you've eaten and make you less likely to go for a second helping etc.
Something like sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon/splash of cranberry or apple juice, or (slim) tonic and lime, is a decent pint-kinda-substitute-thing. Of course it's not a pint. But it's refreshing and isn't full of sugar.

Best of luck. If you can stick with it you will feel sooo much better. I did it for 6 months and found I had much more energy and I got much better sleep. Feeling? Um ok actually no withdrawals nothing.

If you want to make the process easier then Allen Carr's "Easyway to Control Alcohol" is worth a read, however, you do have to read it with on open mind and finish the book. It certainly made going to the pub and not drinking much easier for me.
