Really hot in bed

No, not that sort of hot, unfortunately.

Even in the depths of winter I sleep under just a sheet and single woolen blanket, often with a fan blowing on me. It's not a normal sort of warm, my skin can be really cold to touch but I'm burning up. I know it's not normal to be like a menopausal woman, especially as I'm not female but I just put it down to me never having a hot bedroom but it's getting a bit silly now.

We were talking to a friend who's daughter might be going through an early menopause (she's 24) and they're worried about what else it could be. I was surprised at how many things being hot at night can be a sign of. My sleeping is terrible, I sleep about 2-3 hours then wake up, I'm going mad about it.

Any one have similar problems?

I am having something similar at the moment - have slept poorly over the past few nights and woken up at about 2-3 o clock all sweaty and 'orrible. Not had any beer either unfortunately. I'm just coming out of the other side of some flu, so reckon it may be that - but I seem to go through phases.

You shouldn't sleep with a fan blowing directly on you, this will mess with your thermoregulation.

Yes me as well. Whenever I drop to sleep I appear to 'overheat'. It is very odd.

I also do not really feel the cold and will wear a T-shirt most of the time. I had a weird experience in the Science Museum that had a thermal camera: everyone else had a hot face etc.. where-as I was a complete uniform colour.

Im the same. We just got a new duvet as well, 13.5 Tog and a lot of down... Most nights I have woken up middle of the night bathed in sweat. As in go fetch a towel and dry off bathed. Then go grab the thin duvet and go sleep under that instead.

Meanwhile my OH is snug as a bug with the heated blanket on on her side to boot!

I occasionally wake with the pillow drenched. Usually it's when I've been fighting some infection or other. But if it comes on gradually and persists for over 3 weeks on a nightly basis, best get things checked out.

Similar for me. Got a slightly enlarged spleen and still having checks to find the cause. In the final throes of checks before the hospital decide to put it down to "nothing to worry about"!

I get this along with tachycardia and headache, which makes sleeping impossible, if I drink alcohol, eat cheese, sea food, strawberries, chocolate or anything with gluten in it (can't eat that anyway) before bed.

Forgot and had amongst other things a glass of champagne and red wine, strawberries and some of 'er M&Ms last night before bed. Hardly slept at all. Have you seen the st they put in those things? frown

1) take your core temperature a few times over night to see if you really are hot

2) turn down the central heating

3) see if you have any symptoms of hyperthyroidism, including talking to GP.

Thanks for all the replies, good to see I'm not the only freak.

I am avoiding alcohol as it definitely is a trigger, I don't seem to be able to drink much any way. After as little as a glass (usually 1/2 a bottle) I can get thunderous headaches, I've always been prone to them and migraines.

A couple of points that really struck a chord with me in this post. Wheat, I'm on Lansoprasole long term, even putting something with wheat in my mouth and spitting it out again will make me bilious for 3-4 days after unless I take Lansoprasole.

And the tachycardia bit, never bothered to talk to the doc about this because it's caused by alcohol but if I drink a fair amount (more than 1/2 a bottle) I wake in the night and my heart feels like it's trying to escape through my sternum, it can be a bit scary to the point it's almost stopped me drinking completely.

I seem to be developing allergic reactions to everything as I get older. Started out suffering years of eczema and being prescribes oily greasy ste to smear all over my skin, turns out I'm allergic to scented washing powders and soap.

Regarding heating, we don't have any in our room, I would sleep in the fridge if I could fit, a hot room is torture to me.

I shall sleep with a thermometer up my bum for a few nights and see what that tells me, hopefull that I don't like it or who knows where it could leadscratchchin

People make a big deal out if the gluten\wheat thing and others will try to tell you it's just a fashion and you're imagining it. Just avoid it if you don't get on with it and watch out because the bds put it in everything (why the fk do you need gluten in ham, crisps and soup?).

I'm mid 40's. The wheat things been doing on since my mid 20's but took many years to sus out what it was. I used to not eat all day and just have an evening meal, that way the acid wouldn't be such an issue because I'd be asleep (oh the memories of sleep) then one visit to the doctor they prescribed me Lansoprasole.

I did do about 2 years off whet and lansoprasole, I lost lots of weight and felt good but as you say, it's in everything. My wife's a vegetarian, I used to think going out with her was difficult, Jesus, avoiding wheat is like avoiding water, no chance.

Now we live in France (same as you I believe) and it's even harder. It's really difficult, fruit and veg go off much quicker so I'd have an hour's drive every three days to stock up.

This won't help if it's medical obviously but it's worth investing in good quality Sheeps wool duvet/pillows for the sweats. It regulates your body temperature. Has a Sheeps wool smell which is bizarrely quite comforting but after a couple of sleeps you won't notice it anyway.
Feels a bit odd at first as it's thin and you feel like you'll be cold, but you won't be. It's pretty amazing stuff - sheep wear it all the time!!
It's no more expensive than a feather set. Mine come in 2 weights - 200 and 300gms. They popper together for a winter duvet. Get pillows with cases you can zip open - then you can add more or take fleece out depending on how you like your pillows. Takes a little while to get used to but stick with it.
Worked wonders chez moi.

We've been under woolen blankets for years now. I hate duvets, when we go away it's a nightmare or we take our own blankets.

As for the smell of sheep's wool, I'm Welsh, I'd be awake all night nursing a boner.whistle

Alcohol withdrawal 72 hours ish after a big session. Eg drink on sat night and Tuesday night wake up wet through!

Common issue.

Lymphocyte count OK?
