Just had my car stolen in Potters Bar tonight. Two stocky guys, one with a weapon threatened me for the keys. They had followed me in a blue RS3 and took the keys off me, while in the in-laws driveway.

Reg number G10 ASL. Black.

Absolutely gutted...

That must have been terrifying. It is one thing to steal a car by breaking into it but it steps up a level by threatening harm. Not sure what anyone can do to prevent this apart from driving a rubbish car.

Really sorry to hear that; did you catch the reg of the RS3? I hate to say it but I suspect that would have been hot too.

I'm not far from you so will keep eyes well peeled for the plate.

Hope you're OK smile

Thanks Dr G. I think one of the neighbors got the reg number of the RS3. It is just the way they did it. They followed me for a few miles, hide behind the car and tapped on the boot, then as you get out to see what is going on, they spring up on you, with weapon in full sight. I am glad they did not manage to wrestle my iPhone off me, as they wanted that too. However house keys, wallet with credit cards, driving license and some clothing and all taken. A full daylight robbery!

To all those Golf R owners, please keep your wits about you!! Will not be getting another one in a hurry!

Awful story. Mine attracted a lot of attention from boy racers and other blokes in cars shouting out of windows etc. I have had it completely debadged but I suspect that is only likely to put off the most stupid opportune thieves.

I've honestly never had a car attracting so much attention and have owned Porsches, a M5 and a Focus ST.

I was reading an interesting article about using a cheap old mobile with GPS, hiding and hard wiring it in and using a tracking app as a DIY tracker which thieves will not suspect. That should certainly locate it until it ends up in some container somewhere.

In the meantime, if someone taps on my boot the shock of it will cause me to accidentally slip my foot off the clutch whilst at 4000rpm.

There was a similar incident in High Wycombe last week. Golf R gets bumped up the rear, this time by a grey BMW 2 series, then they try and carjack the Golf when the driver gets out to inspect the damage. Seems like they are targeting Golf R's!

Sorry to hear that, fking scumbags. Glad you were unhurt though.

Hope the cretins get caught.

It's sad, but understandable, that we now live in a society where people feel they can't spend their hard earned money on a nice car in case something like this happens.

Sorry , Gio thats all I have. They did not get the car and no one was injured. The car they used to bump the Golf was on fake number plates. it was reported to the Police. Hopefully it's not a trend starting but I fear it may be!

Awful, sorry to hear this guys!

There seems to be a pattern of 'high performance hatchbacks' being stolen by car jacking.

- Coventry, Warwicks (Audi S3) - woman was hit with baseball bat
- Potters Bar, Herts (Golf R)
- High Wycombe, Bucks(Golf R)
- Hertford, Herts (Golf R)

Very sorry to hear this OP.

This is the very thing that put me off getting a Golf R when they were on the really cheap deals and more lately a B7 RS4. There has been quite a few reports of VAG R cars being stolen by various means and seem to be top of the thieving scumbags want list at present. I didn't think it was worth the risk.

I won't be getting one either I think, It does seem to be worse in certain area's but not worth the risk when my wife and kid uses the car more than me.

Will stick with my Mk7 GTi they don't seem worthy of being knickedbiggrin

Sorry to her this OP.

Out of interest was it a 5 door car? I should imagine the rear doors will make these quite a good get away car.
