Can anyone on here who does this professionally help me a bit, or point me to some reliable resources.

A motorbike crash 2 months ago broke and dislocated my left hamate bone. The hospital are happy with how it's mended; I had the cast off on Tuesday (so 5 days ago); I had a cast that let me use my fingers 2 weeks before that.

I've been referred into NHS physio; my accident management co seem keen to send me private as well... but not the other lot admit liability (it's dragging on).

My hand and fingers are very stiff and have lost a lot of flexibility over the 7 weeks they were in the cast. I know it's early days, but I'd like them back working properly as soon as I can. The NHS don't seem to be in a hurry to help now, and I'm concerned that the longer I leave it, the harder it's going to be to get the range of movement back. My hand is working ok-ish for normal stuff (not too heavy!), a bit swollen still; I can't make a fist yet - about an inch short of touching my palm, and the wrist won't go very far back and forth.

If the only advice is - it needs professional assessment, just use it a bit and don't worry for now - then that'll be useful too as I'll stop worrying.

Thanks in advance!

This might not help you but I was ran into by a bus last month, non fault claim and my solicitor sorted out physio, so far had two sessions and helped a lot. Have a word with whoever is dealing with your claim.

I would get a Physio appointment asap. The longer you don't get treatment the longer you will take to recover. I had an op on my thumb and saw a Hand Therapist. Look for a member of BAHT.

Cost isn't that much £60 initial assessment and £40 a session. My medical insurer paid.

Was speaking to a Physio on holiday and he said that he got frustrated with the NHS because it took so long for people to see him. If he could see them within a week he said the recovery time is massively shorter.

I'm already up to 11 days after plaster with no sign of the NHS even giving me an appointment; my insurers won't refer me privately until the 3rd party have accepted liability (been sat on it for 2 months now, and there's not really any argument).

Use of my hand and wrist is important to me - I normally do karate, for a start - so I think I'll get on to someone asap then and pay for it myself for now.

With my thumb I had the plaster off and saw the hand therapist the following day.

I was given a form to hand in, two weeks ago. Nada since. I've mostly been trying to stretch it since, but not too much as I'm not sure what I'm doing is right or not... I've fired off some enquires today, shame about the bank hol, but hopefully get something going next week.
