Feeling miserable after an operation

I have had to change the appointment as I am planning On going back to work on the 2nd. I'll be seeing the therapist on the 9th instead
I asked the specialist to see if the bioplastique could be removed. Unfortunately he has said that this isn't possible.
I am now at a loss. I seriously cannot live the way I am. I have to have cotton wool permanently in my left ear otherwise I get echoes in that ear too. It also feels blocked despite the fact i have A grommet in it.

That's a bit harsh! Do you know what caused it? Sorry to learn that you have this. you start to adjust, it just takes time...Have you been given any prognosis?
I am hoping that I can get some pink noise therapy to help retrain my ear

Back to ENT for a grommet if it hasn't sorted itself in six months.
You *will* adjust, it just takes time...
Hopefully it'll clear up for you or the grommet sorts it.
My echo gets worse when I lay down. Hopefully the ct scan will show something

Quick update;
Went back to work yesterday - working from home. 12 hour shift wasnt easy but I managed it.
My left ear was doing alsorts of crazy s
t yesterday. I am now 100% convinced that I do not have what my ENT thinks I have (Hyperacusis) and this is 100% related to my left ear causing the issue in my right ear. If I burp my left ear clicks and goes a bit funny, but it seems to take all of the symptoms away from my right ear.
I am going to give it a few more weeks to see if anything else changes and then speak to my ENT about it. I will also be mentioning it to the hearing therapist.
Some times my right ear isnt too bad, but if I swallow hard or yawn it makes it worse for a while. This to me does not sound like hyperacusis. We will see.

2) putting my hand over my left ear and sealing it makes my right ear a lot better.
I saw a hearing therapist on Tuesday who has suggested I start white noise therapy. I have to listen to white noise in my left ear for 6 hours a day for the next 3 months, in an affect to de-sensitize me to the noises in my right ear.
I have also contacted the ENT specialist with my recent findings, and have asked for the grommet in my left ear to be removed, as it is surplus to requirements with the eustachian tube now opening, as it was only there in case it didnt, and I believe that this is having an affect on my right ear, as when i talk it feels like my left ear is "bleeding sound" into my right ear, but putting my hand over my left ear sorts this out.
I think the white noise is making me a bit light headed, but hopefully it's something I will get used to over time. I have to basically just go about my day with the noise being generated.

So that was quick. My ENT replied to me tonight and will arrange an appointment for me to see him to have the grommet removed. It'll be done under a local anesthetic. There is a small risk of getting glue ear but I can deal with that. My main concern is that I hope it clears up the echo I get by having it removed!

Hang in there, you're doing well.
It's not bad tonight, but that's because my left ear is very clicky and the E Tube is open. It seems that the worse my left ear is, the better my right one is lol.
I have decided though that if the grommet removal sorts my echo issue, then I am leaving surgery alone unless totally necessary. I will live with having PETD. It is preferable to the echo.

While selling my car yesterday, on the test drive the buyer went up a road to test the car. Unfortunately I received a huge build up of pressure in my right ear again that I was unable to clear. I am still pretty much stuck in Aylesbury.
I am still intolerant to low voices as well. I have a major doubt that removing the grommet is going to make a difference now.
Woke up this morning and my right ear was quite bad again. It has eased off a bit now.

I thought I had best post an update.
The tinnitus in my right ear is really annoying me now. This as well as the hyperacusis and something that I can't really describe any better than the noise of air blowing down my ear canal when I talk or scratch my head or noise is really driving me mad.
The hyperacusis. Some days are still bad, but i have more manageable days. I had to stop the white noise therapy as it was making my symptoms worse.
When I talk it feels like my right ear is full. I think this is a side effect of the hyperacusis which I am hoping goes away when the grommet is removed from my left ear. I am not confident that it will. In fact I am not confident that removing the grommet will give me any improvements at all, apart from possibly clearing the pulsatile tinnitus I now have in my left ear.
Hopefully it'll help the pressure build up I feel, though I actually think that happens in my left ear and not my right, it just bleeds over to my right, as covering my left ear when the pressure builds up seems to clear the symptoms until I remove my hand again.

Cheers mate. I have good and bad days with it, more good than bad I think, but thats mainly as I stay away from noise and dont go out as much as I used to.
I've been working a lot lately too which takes up a lot of my time.
I'll probably know a week or 2 after the grommet being removed if life is going to get better. I feel a bit negative about it at the moment, but we will see what brings!

8 days to go. Originally was having the op at 9:45am, but been moved to 9:30am after an administrative mistake. Suits me!
Woke up this morning and my hearing is quite bad. I firmly believe that removing the grommet isnt going to fix this, but we will see. It think its an unhappy coincidence but I'll know more in a few weeks.

I've just read your posts on this thread and it sounds like you're having a really tough time sir. You seem to be coping with it pretty well I'd say given how low you must be feeling some days. Not long until your op - you never know, it might solve your problems. Best of luck with it and keep us updated.
I once had a lump in the throat sensation which lasted for almost a year and I had every test under the sun. Doctors put it down to stress. One day out of the blue, I woke up and it was gone thank God. Stick in there mate, I honestly believe there will be light for you at the end of the tunnel.
It's not the best, but I am just trying to put up with it and get used to it, just in case I am stuck with it. I am very hopeful that it makes it better. It'll do one of three things really, better, worse, same lol. Its good that your lump went, I couldnt imagine what that would be like having that lump and not knowing what or why really. Hopefully you dont get a recurrence!

The grommet has now been removed. My left ear is very numb lol.
It will take around a week for the hole to close, so hopefully in a few weeks life will be much better for me.
At the moment the echo feels a bit worse in my right ear, but i expected that things may get worse initially. That might be a good thing as it goes as a change tells me I am probably on the right track.
Still got my ct scan a week tomorrow so let's see what that says!

Thanks Ross! The echo in my left ear is worse too but that I also expected. My ear drum is also numb and I have a lot of ringing in my left ear (and still in my right) but again, I'd expect my left ear to be upset as I've just had a minor procedure carried out.
Let's see whats what in a week or two. At least I have an idea what I might expect this time!
