Could be a sentinel pile, you won't know until you look at it (or get someone (doctor) to). Strange how the cream has made it worse though suggesting something else...

Go see the GP, they'll be able to tell you for sure. I had some similar discomfort after a course of amoxycilyn. Turned out it was a bacterial infection similar to athletes foot on my backside. Some prescribed cream sorted it in no time.

I read that as "sentient pile". Now that would be worrying!

Hi,i'm new to posting on forums, but a friend pointed out various posts regarding rear end problems and I thought my recent experiences might assist.Towards the end of last year I also had rear problems, doc thought piles and gave me ointment. The problem got worse and a large hard lump 'erupted' next to my opening.A trip to a consultant confirmed that this was a Fistula, and surgery was the only option. It appears that it is caused by a abcess inside the lower bowel which finds its way out via small drainage tubes we all have around our anus. One of these got blocked with puss and erupted. The op involved cutting the top off the lump, finding its tract up to the bowl and cleaning it all out.The wound is then left open as it has to heal from inside out. After 3 weeks its still painful if i sit in the wrong position.Hope this helps,if you need further info please ask.regards.

Not that I can remember, except the piles problem seemed to develop into a general ache around my opening.Rather like toothache in your bum.The lump seemed to grow without my noticing until it was rather painful and discharged puss.3 weeks after the op,looking in a mirror,i seem to have a slight cut and it looks to be healing ok.

I had a couple of those things knifed back in the 80s and early 90s. If you get the offer of a general anaesthetic I'd give it some thought. Had one with some kind of freeze spray to numb the area. I think it was just to lull me into false sense of security.

Hope it recovers on it's own.

Perianal access will either settle with antibiotics or will need surgical drainage. If the latter, the cavity where the pus was drained from will need daily packing to enable it to heal without the abscess recurring. Painful for a couple of weeks post op then rapidly settles. Get used to baring your ass for a variety of doctors and nurses over the coming weeks!!

I had this when i was depolyed to Bosnia, went to med centre in Split(Pardon the pun) and some wee RAF dhead says its just a big pllok so gave me some cream which hurt like fk.

drove 6 hours up country to Jajce where we had our camp and lasted another week before going to med centre there, was in agony and thought it would have died down but no, doctor takes a look and next thing im on my way in a sea king helicopter to the med base in Sipivo for a immediate operation, cue 2 years down the line with varios operations etc and a large chunk of my bum is cut away and has been ok sice then, 1999.

funny part is when they changed the initial dressings as they had packed it straight after first operation i was in doggy position and it was like a magic show looking underneath seein the doctor pulling all these bandages out my ass, maybe the next Britains got talent show.

my partner at the time was so patient, bless her cleaning the wound for me etc.

would not wish it on anyone.

OP, like "mikyman" I had perennial abscess donkey's ago which led to fistulae.

I now live with three seton stitches which make life a bit difficult but keep me out of hospital. They feel like they're nylon fishing line. All three go in through the inner cheek, out through my hoop and are individually tied with their own knot. I frequently have to get my wife to untangle me.

If I could give one piece of advice it would be to press your GP to refer you to a consultant who specialises in arses. Assuming you don't have insurance, I'd even recommend going private and paying the £100ish for a consultation. At least it'll get the ball rolling and give you an idea. If you can't afford to take it further, I'm sure the consultant will fast track you for an NHS MRI if that's what's needed.

Seriously, time may be of the essence.

I don't know what's going on in your bumhole.

My advice is to get it looked at by a top bottom doctor.

I've had nearly two decades of discomfort and inconvenience and indignity because GPs didn't know what they were looking at and I convinced myself that it'd be alright.

I don't think I can make it any clearer.

I agree with Kiltie, dont leave it.My consultant said if it was left then it could become worse and could lead to me being incontinent through loss of muscle around hole.My doctors have their own budgets and for this op I had a choice of nhs, waiting 10-12 weeks or private 5-6 weeks. He said that they were quoted the same cost to them which ever i chose. You are meant to be given a choice of hospitals,so press for a choice and hope there is a private one on the list.

A year or two back I had a painful thing at the top of my crack just under the tailbone. Left it and left it as most men do until I could barely move. Every single movement caused extreme and increasing pain, walking, sitting, anything. Worst was getting into the car- you don't realise how many individual movements that involves. I was driving basically lying on my side with feet the wrong way on the pedals and could only look left.

Anyway I was in the passport office and was told to go to the hospital, which I did before I had to go back and collect the passport. Doctor says its an abcess (something beginning with p) and I'd have to go to theatre to have it cut out. I explained about the passport and asked for an appointment the next day. After I convinced her that it should be possible to make an appointment in A&E on a Sunday morning they gave me huge painkillers, I left, got the passport and went home.

Lay on the couch all night because bed was too far and painful. Around 6am I woke and felt a slime all over my arse. It had burst and spewed it's very smelly contents all over the couch. I waited until the nurse upstairs took her dog out and asked her what to do. She took me up to the hospital and used a bit of clout to have me seen straight away. At that point a pretty stunning blonde doctor asked me to take my pants off to inspect my stinking slimy arse. Fortunately because it had burst I got away with some antibiotics and more painkillers. No knife. Even without that it was one of the most miserable things to happen to me. One doctor said it was considered one of the most painful things a guy could get. I agreed.

TL;DR get it checked
