hi guys,

i'm just wondering what the thoughts are regarding training for 10 minutes an hour, rather than the traditional hour'ish block. it might be easier for me to get 10-15 minutes in every kind of 60-90 mins. or is that a waste of time?

i get plenty of cardio in on my way to/from work on the bike or the foot

thanx, brimble.

Can't comment on how likely that will be to achieve your goals but a main problem I can see is fitting in a decent warm up and worthwhile set of just one exercise is going to be hard in 10 mins.

Unless you are staying active between the 10 minute blocks you are going to have to warm up each time

You haven't mentioned exactly what the outcome you are looking to get from it but with some consideration I think it is something that you could work.

When I used to work in a large gym a lot of the gym instructors would do stuff like every time they walked into the fitness office they would do x pull ups. As usual for gym instructors they were ahead of most people in terms of fitness levels and also quite young.

I don't think you could drastically increase your 1rm as that would definitely need a good length warm up. Nor are you likely to be able to hugely increase muscle mass like some other training plans.

If you slowing progress into it. Like the first week doing mobilising and light / easy body weight stuff. Then build into it some resistance stuff you should be able to track what is working for you.

Everything you do will do something. The 2 questions to ask yourself are is doing what you want to happen and if so, is it doing it quick enough to warrant the effort you are putting in. With the obvious caveat that it is something that doesn't injure you.

Don't see why ever not - what an original idea! 15 minutes x4 is fine. One warm up followed by 3x10 sets/reps with 2 mins rest in-between. You could do I compound followed later by 3 kinds of supplementary lifts (15x4=60 minutes). You'd be done in a morning. In three mornings you could do your whole body. Have to be committed though.

Oh my god guys, so sorry. I'd completely forgotten i'd posted this....

The results i'd like to achieve is what i guess most guys in their mid-thirties would be after. More toned/defined perhaps more muscle and less fat. 6 pack obviously...

I'm 6ft2. 85 kg and according to them posh body fat scales approx 12%fat, so good but could be better. I pretty much don't drink booze and eat pretty well i think. I do go to the gym 3-4 times a week (plus my cardio) to do my weights, but without any real kind of routine or plan, and just tend to freestyle it.

So anyway, my cardio is pretty good and i'm happy with. I did bench a 100kg bar the other day for 2 reps which seems to be increasing so i must be doing something ok smile. But i think would find it easier to get 10-15 mins in every sort of 90 mins and wondered what the downsides are, but reading the above replies, it looks like the warm up would or could be the biggest consideration and drawback.

If the multiple short sessions are possible, what should i be doing, and actually, thinking about it, if it isn't going to be any good, what should i be doing in the traditional x4 1hr sessions a week? confused

Thanks again,

Deadlift

Bloody hell!! He's a big old dude isn't he! Makes you wonder how hard and long it takes to get that size.
