I had a lot in the military, I had physio with ultrasound, lots of ice baths, special stretching!

Even now I get it recurrent really easily, but try to do the stretches the physio taught me.

If you can get a couple of physio sessions they really help and teach you how to prevent again
As above( I wasn't in the military though).

Very common injury.

Lots of Physio / massage plus exercises to strengthen the tendon and prevent it happening again.

I doubt the GP will do much other than prescribe anti inflammatories / pain killers and put yo on a waiting list for Physio. If you have private health insurance then use it, or stump up the money and pay a Physio directly.

Good luck.

I had very similar at the start of the year which seemed to be brought on by driving long distances. Forget the doctors or taking anti-inflammatories just get yourself to a physio. It cost me a total of £70 for an hour consultation followed by two 30 minute massage sessions all over a period of 3 weeks.

The key was the exercises consisting of the heel lifts already mentioned and lunges that stretched the calf muscle and the tendon. It will take about 3 months but you'll feel improvement within days.

Mine has all but gone now, I made myself rest it yesterday, I always end up hobbling round doing stuff, even had a kip in the afternoon, then a mega sleep last night and woke up and it was loads better.

I managed to walk to and round the local show, probably a couple of miles and its fine but I wore walking boots with arch supports to try and stop movement, I think I have one specific pair of trainers that seem to cause it so will avoid them.
