Myprotein works for me, but I always buy unflavoured as they sweeten everything with sucralose which tastes rank. Unsweetened + fruit is much more tasty IMO.
What's unflavoured like with just milk? Looking at MP's flavour list, they do look tempting but can imagine all tasting very chemical..

The Protein Works Cherry Bakewell is my favourite so far, not actually moved to GoNutrition yet due to a massive backlog of TPW stuff. I always mix it with Gold Top milk though biggrin

Like somewhat milkier milk really, it's not bad.

Blending in a fresh banana is the best I've tasted. Tastes just like real banana. wink
Frozen fruit also works and thickens it up nicely.

I tried that, thought it was disgusting and reedy. Modern flavours seem to taste like st. Not as nice as the stuff from years ago.

I'm gonna try USN next, I think I heard they taste decent.

I'm addicted to MyProtein chocolate orange lately.
Getting really bored of MP cookies and cream. Already bored of TPW strawberry.

I bought some "Zone Nutrition" strawberry whey protein from Quality Save (900-odd grammes for 15quid). -The information label tells me it is all as it should be and that is made in a factory in Ireland that doesn't produce banned doping substances.

I've no idea if it is any good or not, but I suspect/hope that it isn't doing me any harm. I'm not a bodybuilder, just a cyclist and runner who does strength training a few times a week.

It tastes okay mixed with milk.

No. Creatine is a very safe supplement as long as you don't eat tons of it (up to 20g/day seems to be the recommendation).

And GN is a pretty good company who produce their own protein powder iirc
My gym sells GN products. Are they any good? I assume if I am not looking to bulk up, avoid the high carb variants?

Thanks G

As I said, I haven't got round to trying them myself, but have a lot of friends who swear by their products. It was set up by the founder of Myprotein: http://gonutrition.com/about-us

I use The Protein Works, their coffee coolers are lovely especially the Caramel Latte Flavour.

They always have sales or email discount codes. Have loads of different types of protein and loads of different flavours. My favourite are the Vanilla, Choc Mint Brownie & Chocolate Peanut. Avoid Strawberries and Cream though its awful!

What I don't like about MYProtein in particular is the sheer amount of products they have on their site. They all seem to overlap or have the same powder crap in them yet marketed as something else.

"a" protein powder in "a" flavour would be nice!

What's a decent one to actually go for? The impact whey or whey isolate?

Weekly my workouts look like this: (or they will once I am back to full health).

3 x swimming, 5 hrs total, 3k/hr average. Mostly sprint and middle distance.
2 x gym - 5x5 strong lifts + 1-2 other exercises.
Will probably manage a run or a cycle once a week because I run with my OH to help her actually do it!

So need to eat a lot, but its getting the protein in. I try to avoid powders and the like, but it is hard to ignore the relative ease and cheapness.

I also contemplated getting some MYProtein RE:Charge, particularly for after swimming, but reading around, I think plain old chocolate milk is just as good. Whether or not its cheaper is another question though. A litre is about £1 and thats 3 servings.

I normally just go for a mid-GI snack pre-training, something like a banana. Or two. Seems to work...

Anything else I should consider?

Impact whey is the basic whey protein, whey isolate has slightly higher protein content (less fat/lactose) but is more expensive.

I use PHD Diet Whey. Vanilla flavour is quite pleasant and my hair is thinning so it must be working

I always chose my protein powders and bars depending on there sugar content and other crap that might be in them- avoiding those as much as possible!
Some powders/bars have just as much sugar in them as chocolate bars.
At the moment, I am using Reflex instant whey Pro and PHD diet whey bars.

I would add that unless you're training pretty hard and to quite a high intensity then you might be wasting your money buying the stuff in the first place.
The average joe you see at the gym, not training hard really, just going through the motions- you know- then taking some protein powder ain't going to get them in great shape any time soon!
