Do you ever get the feeling that being fat - and I include myself in this - is the price you pay for actually enjoying life?

Lovely food and even lovelier alcohol makes life great! It's just a shame that how we all want to look, and how we want to live seem to be mutually exclusive.

Most of the people who post on here with low BF% and 'great bods' seem to drink no alcohol, and avoid carbs as if they're poison.

Well good luck on your goal once you get back to it, I have chosen October onwards to really start my diet as October is boring, I mean wtf goes on in October?.

Dunno.

I enjoy a pint of cider on a nice day like today. And I had cake earlier. I have at least 2 packets of crisps a day.

I just don't routinely eat st loads of everything healthy or otherwise.

Yeah you seem to have it spot in tbh, however a lot of posters on here are zero drink, almost zero carbs etc.

I don't have a huge amount to lose, and once I lose it I'll be planning to maintain my happy weight in a similar fashion.

Yeah, I tend to stick to spirits. drunk

But given the choice, I'll take a diet coke over normal so don't end up drinking 200kcals. Throw a whisky or vodka in that and you've got a pleasant drink for about 50kcals. G&T is another. So typically, I'll have those mixers and a cider or two over the night rather than ciders and/or beers all night.

Seems unnecessary. And I don't have the benefit of age (which a lot of people blame on those who have a decent shape despite enjoying life). I do play a lot of sports and regularly lift weights, though.

Booze.

Booze is the killer. Normal into levels of a varied diet, and being active (not purposeful exercise) is sufficient. Until you add the cal intake of Booze.
Especially Beer and Wine by the comfortable volume that is the norm these days.
Four pints? A bottle of Wine?

A Vod & Slim, or a GIn & Slim makes it more viable.
100% this unfortunately, I was fine until I got into drinking red wine!

You can drink as much beer as you want, just don't eat.

hehe

Pretty much. I like to eat so I balance the amount of booze I drink so I can eat without looking like an anorexic. I'm renowned for always eating at one of the venues I work at - they're normally surprised if they don't see me eating something. biggrin

I make that rule with myself. Fine, go and drink 8 pints, but don't eat st at the station on the way back, and don't eat st the next day when you feel hungover. So yes, don't eat anything generally from a night out till lunch the next day and an hour ride in the morning to clear the head. Works well.

Yeh every now and again I don't care, but then I'm not fat, so its all good, I generally eat what I like, but just saying its possible to be bad and not get fat, its just that most people are twice as bad after a few drinks!

You're a proper serious cyclist though, so you could probs get away with a bottle of wine a night!

Yeh but the point is I wasn't always, and I was fat, but if you don't wanna change what you eat then you better get ready to do a stload of cardio biggrin

Anyway, this diet sounds a tad stupid, losing water is easy, a bottle of red wine will sort that, losing fat isn't a quick thing.

That's why he writes for the Grauniad.

My wife has lost 5 stone and dropped from a size 20 to a size 10 in a year, so it can be done.

We've basically increased her exercise and controlled the calorie intake with minimal processed foods (plus the odd treat here and there).

It's good though because despite having had two children in the past three years, her tummy is retreating nicely with no excess skin sagging down smile
It didn't say you can't lose weight, it said you can't go back to being slimmer and expect to stay that way. You're now into a world of yo-yo weight gain and loss.
