I agree with this completely. Increases/decreases for most people should be done slowly.

I've been training for 14yrs and can now (reasonably) comfortable change weight/shape/bodyfat in a month or two. The reason most people fail, or feel crap is because they try too much, too soon.
Oops. I literally went all out and shoved 1900 in my mouth yesterday. Including a protein bar!
Then did a cardio workout. I have to say I feel much better than a couple of days ago, less tired.
I have a Personal Trainer coming round tomorrow to 'work me hard' and give me some diet tips so I can't wait for that.

Not to mention I've been taking antidepressants for nearly a week now and although they have probably given me a few side effects (nausea/tired/dry mouth) it makes me want to drink more water and sort myself out. I've been diagnosed with GAD and panic disorder which is also why I lost weight. I'm determined to get back on track.
Thanks all for the advice.

Ps. I'm never eating raw eggs!! biggrin

You do seem to bounce from one extreme to the other. That's a good way to end up "skinny/fat".

Try to find a middle ground - you can completely transform your body but it takes time and persistence. You know what you have to do - up your calories and your exercise. Think of it as a year of transformation, keep it up, and you will be happily surprised in three and six months.

And raw eggs are fine on steak tartare as a treat. Practically no-one needs the stupid shakes everyone seems to drink these days, whether powdered or raw egg based. Shouting "beefcake" doesn't help either.

Lol. Are you sure shouting Beefcake doesn't help?! It would be easier.
I've just been for a run with the OH and I am absolutely st at travelling. I can do half an hour non stop doing aerobic step exercises but I can't seem to do the whole running thing.
Frustrating!!

1) Stop doing such high intensity exercise. You're burning calories that you haven't got.
2) Seek help beyond a doctor giving you sweeties.

I'm going to CBT counselling. Medication was my last resort.

I am glad to hear it. Hope the CBT helps. Medication is fine if used sparingly - I understand the Priory people recommend it when your head is too fuzzy to think straight (my words) but then they use talk-based therapies to get to the root of the problem.

As for exercise, apart from strength training, I wouldn't bother with cardio - you simply do not need it if you're underweight. It's like filling the bathtub up without putting the plug in, if you see what I mean.

FWIW my background is in helping people with emotional and psychological issues using talk-based therapies. Ironically, I don't really talk about it on PH.

Eat plenty of good wholefoods and train using heavy weight compound exercises and low reps - you'll soon start to put weight on.

Regarding protein intake.
I am interested to know where the notion you need 1 gram of protein per pound bodyweight comes from.Has there been scientific studies ? The same question also to your reply that you only need half that.
0.8g is enough for most people
