Owen seems to like to keep his tongue at the top of his mouth, which isn't ideal for bottle feeds.

Have they checked for tongue tie? (I assume they did whilst he was in hospital)

i would consider topping up with formula just to be safe.
That's what I did, worked brilliantly. My son also had tongue tie that had been missed!!
Our first son had tongue tie which was also missed. Even though many "specialists" looked at him due to feeding problems. It was an ex midwife friend who spotted it but by then we had already gone over to the bottle. Very sad.

I was never really able to stop top up feeds (partly too nervous after the initial stress) but he did really well on mix feeding. Just wish I'd known about tongue tie issues at the start.

Yes. Given it's fairly common and partially visible and easily identified by those in the know I was amazed we were missed.

Interesting, we'd not heard of them checking for tongue tie, it isn't mentioned in his notes anywhere either. They symptoms do match, although he doesn't seem to have trouble opening his mouth wide or latching on, it is just that he doesn't stay on for the full feed and drifts off to sleep.

I will mention it to the health visitor though.

You'll probably be able to access a feeding specialist through your local health visiting team. Worth a visit from them to rule it out.

Aww congrats!

My sister has 3 children 6.5yrs, 4.5yrs and 3yrs!! I don't know how she does it, esp as she lives in Oz and her hubby works away during the week!! But she does and you will aswell thumbup

I have a 6yr old and a 20mth old, that gap brings it's own challenges!

This weekend marks the point where Owen has spent more time at home than in hospital! He's now feeding really well and has already grown out of some of his clothes, when he was weighed on Tuesday he was already 1kg up from his lightest.

Yes, very! Got a few days off now to spend with him, as my paternity leave was used up while he was in hospital.

We've got another girl on the way. At least it saves on clothes.

'Our bump' is now 38 weeks and 4 days old.

We found out on Sunday that the baby was breached and tried to have him turned which didn't work. It wasn't a bad procedure, but left the future little one distressed for a few hours so are not going to try again.

Result of this - pre-op checks this afternoon to have a c-section on Thursday. Wow. This has come round fast!

We can't wait to meet the little guy.

Baby Milo arrived at 5:05am this morning weighing 8lb 3oz. Milo has a bit of a sore head from the suction cup and we are trying to get him to feed but otherwise all ok.
