Is it normal to feel "washed out" after giving a blood donation? I gave blood for the first time last night and up until about lunch time today I've felt really washed out and generally cant be assed with much. Now feeling back to my normal self.

I wouldn't say normal, but certainly not unusual.

I normally feel a bit more lethargic than usual after a donation, usually wears off after a good night's sleep or two. Remember to drink plenty of fluids!

Yeah going for a few beers after giving blood isn't the best.

Blazing after 4 pints and holy-hangover Batman!

Try doing a bag every week for 6 months then see the effects of a few pints. Thankfully I'm down to once every 2/3 months.

Drink lots of water before and after. Being dehydrated before hand you will feel groggy all after noon. Try do do an afternoon session to.

There is a good reason why they ask if you're planning on doing anything strenuous in the next 24hrs.

I've done 40 odd donations now, normally go on a Friday evening and take it easy on the Saturday.

Load up on fluids through the day, and get your moneys worth from the biccy table at the end. smile

Fluids and food.
I'm usually a little light headed for half an hour straight afterwards but have a good meal asap.

Digestives and a great whack of vitamin d3 pills help me, I bought 5000Iu tablets from Amazon and they have many uses, hangover cures, light headedness fixes, even the day after the deed tiredness, kind of swear by them tbh

It was my first time so hopefully I'll get use to it. I intend to keep it up. I can put up with feeling off for half a day for what will become of it. In all honesty I didn't prepare very well for it so that was probably half the problem.

No problem here either & I only sit down & have a soft drink 'cause they won't let me leave without having something. I do go straight home to my dinner followed by a cuppa with some biscuits but I'm back in the gym the following lunchtime.
