So apparently i have NAFLD (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease).

I've been to the docs and other than a dull ache in my right side i feel pretty healthy, although at the weekend i had some serious pain around that area and stomach but hoping it's a one off; i did go to the hospital who discharged me and said what i knew was coming. Stay away from booze and eat better.

So, duly noted and doing as i'm told but was wondering if any PH'ers have it and how they live with it / maintain it? Exercise will have to step up also.

There are lots of articles out there with various diets but they all tell the same story, put better stuff in but is there anything extra i can do with supplements?

Cheers!

D.

Diagnosed with this 20 or so years ago after a liver biopsy which was ordered due to high liver(?) count on regular blood test, they thought it might be liver cancer at the time. Mine was caused by a very mis-spent youth and a very bad case of hepatitis that saw me laid up for over three months and a further six months recovering. Stopped drinking alcohol at that point and didn't drink again for many years but now have the occasional beer and a glass of wine most nights. Change of diet meant cutting right back on fatty stuff mainly (and of course the alcohol) as both these cause problems for the liver. I have blood tests every year and have been fortunate in that the "counts" have decreased over time but are still a bit above the normal range. A side issue reared it's head last year in as much as my blood sugar count after a fasting blood test was higher than normal, this was a test in the morning but it dropped to a more normal level during the day, the doctor reckons that this can be caused by the liver producing sugar overnight due to the fatty liver problem. As for symptoms, yes I do get the occasional backache but nothing more than that now. Another thing to be aware of is that taking paracetamol with a mal-performing liver can make it a lot worse so again take them only occasionally (taking too many can leave you with permanent liver disease apparently.
