I went for an X-ray due to some pains to the left side of my chest. I have received a letter with a follow up appointment at the hospital. Is this normal procedure?

The problem I have is I will have to take time off work to attend and if there is nothing wrong would be happy to be told over the phone.

Im by no means an expert but if you've had an Xray then surely your GP would be just as able to read out the initial result as some hospital braniac

Try there and good luck

Who referred you for the X-Ray, your GP or a hospital consultant? The ones I've had done at the request of the GP they've been happy to talk about it on the phone. It does however seem like hospital based consultants only do stuff in person. It's probably nothing to worry about but best to go and have a chat. If they think there is some sort if issue then it will then be to get you in for further testing e.g. a CT scan. Chest X-Rays don't seem to provide enough detail in most cases, only enough to see if further investigation is needed or not. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, the pains have been very random for short bursts so my GP sent me to get the X-Ray done.

I guess I best just get on over and receive the news of all clear, at the young age of 26 that's what I'm expecting. I just don't want to waste a consultants time if I don't have to.

It sounds normal procedure.

My Grandad went in a few months ago with pains, he got a follow up appointment 6 weeks later just to re-check - perfectly normal.
