£25 ....a year. It is my works gym and has been described as like something in a prison. It is good, though.

I don't currently work at that location, so I make do with body weight exercises, pull-up bar, dips between chairs, kettlebell, dumbells with loose weights, weighted rucksack and home-made sandbags of different weights.

Not just that, though - using all of it rather than just using the sauna everyday, for instance.
Doesn't really matter a st does it? He said he gets his money's worth which means using the services which are available.

It does. Case in point - I want a gym with an indoor tennis court. DLL charges £109 a month. That's basically £109 a month just to play tennis. Depending on where you are in the country, you could probably get a tennis membership for £30 a month with an indoor court.

Or for the sauna use, you could probably find a sauna in a Nuffield gym for about £60 a month.

£0. After years of using many different gyms I now largely train at home. Think it may have cost several years membership to do but I don't have to wait for anything, have any consideration for anyone and it's 20 feet from my house.

However, I have everything I need biggrin

Sadly, I'm not rich enough to own my own indoor tennis court.

I had to train in some public gyms in London this last week and one in Exmouth

Gymbox was pretty good, very spit n sawdust in its approach, some fit people in there, may be a little intimidating for a beginer but they were really helpfull, kowledgable & friendly, £20 for casual visit but hink membership works out allot cheaper from what ive been told, full crossfit & powerlifting facilities in addition to all CV stuff, great pumping music!

Fit4less was adequate, very cheap (did a free trial online) all normal machines and enough free weights, only a token frame for crossfit stuff

Exmouth - my favourite and where I was born ibn terms of gyms, stinks, proper weight lifting platforms old lifting belts and big bumper plates, no towell needed and protein shakes at the counter (and anything else i'd imagine biggrin)

it'll be nice to get back to my own gym though, got some good ideas for frames and extra equipment though...

I pay £122 per month for Mrs BC and I. Expensive but this does include an indoor swimming pool, 6 indoor and 3 outdoor tennis courts, exercise classes and the gym.

£61 each then. That's pretty much an average price. Which chain?

This thread prompted me to dig out my contract. Nothing too scary, but this clause was eye-opening.

10. Maintenance of Club facilities:

The Club may be temporarily closed for periods of up to 2 weeks each year for maintenance purposes. We reserve the right to add an annual facility maintenance charge of up to but no greater than the equivalent of 1 month's membership fees. If a facility maintenance charge is implemented in the future, you will be given a minimum of a 60 day notice of the amount owed and due date. You hereby authorize the designated billing company to collect this amount along with your regular Club membership fees.

£0. the development i live in decided rather than to put a crap 'gym' into each block they would build 2 decent gyms on the garden level for residents only. they're big and use decent brand new kit. we have about 20 pools and theres a 10km pedestrianised loop around the marina for cardio.

I'd be cancelling my membership on principle, based on that clause.

That's piss-boiling!

I wonder how many of the members have read that? I would also cancel based on that.

Actually, a country club sounds like something I'd like. It's like a gym but you get much more. Somewhere to hang out.

Not so bad if you're management and fancy a subsidised 2 week break. smile

Was googling country clubs. Why does it cost more as you get older? Do they want to keep the ages down? They have tiered fees eg 18-25, 25-30, 30-35, 36+ getting progressively more expensive.

Is that legal in this age of age discrimination?
