Was googling country clubs. Why does it cost more as you get older? Do they want to keep the ages down? They have tiered fees eg 18-25, 25-30, 30-35, 36+ getting progressively more expensive.
Is that legal in this age of age discrimination?
I hope not. biggrin

£25 pm which included a random £5 discount for where I work. I get a choice of 6 (was 7 until recently) gyms/pools/saunas/classes venues with the nearest being 2 mins from work. I go 2-3 times a week max, have been doing ab and dumbell workouts at home though instead recently, so not been much, and only ever use the gym with occasional swimming as I also play 5 a side 2 times a week.

Council run gyms in Nottingham, don't see many people in when I'm around and Tbh the facilities are decent at my local gym so I'm happy with everything.

Can't complain.

David Lloyd for me, £71 pm, no racquets included in that.
I lift weights 3-4 times a week, use pools etc occasionally. Have access to all clubs nationwide so use them for work/drinks etc whenever I'm out and about.
Spend a fortune on their chocolate muffins too

I can't see that people in their late 30s have more time than people in their early 20s.

I have spent more time in my 30's playing golf than in my 20's. At Dorset Golf and Country Club smile (Not a full member)

Oh right.

How much do you pay a year? I tried to find a localish country club with a tennis court for about £100 a month. No such luck.

£120 pcm - Virgin Active, City/West London.

Not too bad as I use Virgin gyms twice to three times a day and always do classes.

I just pay per round so no idea what the annual membership is.

nuts And that's the problem I'm looking at as I am unlikely to use the gym, pool or spa facilities.

Mine is £65 a month for a gym in Leeds called Primal. Its a cross between crossfit and a gym. Pretty good it has a 100 meter sprint track up stairs, a boxing ring and bags and machines, then downstairs is loads of free weights and box jumps, pull up bars, etc.

It's quite expensive for me but the classes are brilliant and there is loads of equipment for you to use so i don't mind too much. I just wish it provided towels or a towel rental service as i'm fed up of bringing my own in each day.

I'm going 5 times a week too on my lunch as there isn't anything else around the area so it suits me well!

I was paying £120 for 6 months. but they've recently started doing an offer of £150 for a years membership (Down from £200)

I think its pretty decent value, the gym is a spit and sawdust kind of place but suits me couple of cardio machines (treadmills, Bikes, Steppers) and a warm-up/stretching/kettle bell area but mainly geared up for weights, guy that runs it is a body-builder,

Its got some decent Eliko bumper plates and a dead lift area, two squat racks a log bar and a Viking press amongst the regular gym kit, opens at 6 so can go in before work and its pretty much dead so end up with the gym to myself, go down 5 days a week during the rugby season then 6 days in the off season.

Been members for 7 or 8 years and never been to the gym, pool or spa. You can get a reduced rate for gym membership only (where they run loads of free classes), but not tennis. As it is the only indoor tennis facility in the area they have you by the short and curlies...

Ah, yes, well, that's pretty much where I'm at then. Also, they don't have formal social tennis sessions at my local DLLs, so the coaching sessions is all that's available for an additional cost! So the monthly cost would be £109 + 4 x £7.50 assuming I only do one session a week.

Also, I am not the only person who seemed to have an issue cancelling my membership with them ....I wouldn't go back.

That does sound good.

I visited a DLL with tennis courts. Everything was £109 (about £80 without the tennis). I'm not interested in the classes, the cardio machines or the pool. I think the salesman died on his feet today as he trotted out his standard spiel to amaze. I struggle to see how anyone can be paying £80 for the pool, gym and classes tbh. Ok, it's only £20 a week but compared to Nuffield with similar kit at £60 and smaller gyms without a pool going for much cheaper rates (eg 20 a month), I'm unconvinced it's value for money. I'm trying to convince myself it's worth it.

Also, loads of kids running around made it feel the opposite of exclusive. It was like a Harvester on a Sunday afternoon.

Raynes Park?
Quite a lot of them have tennis courts! Raynes Park was one of the ones I've looked at, though.
