Ah, yes, well, that's pretty much where I'm at then. Also, they don't have formal social tennis sessions at my local DLLs, so the coaching sessions is all that's available for an additional cost! So the monthly cost would be £109 + 4 x £7.50 assuming I only do one session a week.
Also, I am not the only person who seemed to have an issue cancelling my membership with them ....I wouldn't go back.
Oh, I hadn't thought about that aspect of it.

Was a member there for about 10 years when I was still playing,
Used to be a very good club, but I'm sure others have caught up now.
Ah right. Yeah, I think they all have bubbles for winter play. It is very tempting except I'd never use the other facilities as I think I've already said. Plus none of them have social/mixed play so you have to do a proper coaching session ie pay an additional £7.50 per session. If you go twice a week, that's £169 a month!

I actually go to David Lloyd at Raynes Park. They have open social tennis at 7:30 Friday and Saturday and 4pm Sunday. All free (!) but run by members. If you are a racquets member you can go to other clubs anyway (apart from a select few) but can't book.

That's interesting - I did wonder if running my own social session was an option but tbh it should be done by the club! I don't have the time to be organising something else in addition to be running two businesses and a charity. wobble

I mean Friday, Saturday and Sunday are run by specific individuals. You just turn up to play so you aren't expected to help organise (occasionally another regular is asked to stand in but it is rare)

Also, if the club ran the session they would certainly charge for it!

Yeah, but that specific individual is another member, right? If they don't already have something at my closest DLL, then unless someone bothers to set something up, then it won't happen, right? So typically, it would end up being me as it always ends up being as most people can't be bothered to organise things.

Yes they are members, but the same two individuals have been running Friday & Saturday ever since we have been members (8 years). About 4 years ago another member started Sunday afternoons and has been running it ever since. Friday/Saturday normally cover for each other and there are one or two who will step in for Sunday. It never falls to a random individual. The club also supplies the balls for these social evenings

I think you miss the point. If I join, I'd wait for maybe years before someone bothers, perhaps. Or this random individual will end up running it.

Sorry, thought you meant Raynes Park was an option. Yes, if you go somewhere they didn't have an organised social then yes, someone has to start it

Ah, well, I guess the confusion is that it IS an option but it's not ideal as I'd come up the A3 and turn off at the worst possible time to be doing so. In the middle of the night, it's probably just as quick to get to Raynes Park as it is a couple of others!

You would be surprised how far people come which is probably why it is so expensive. There are a couple of friends of ours (who don't attend the social tennis - just arranged matches) who come from Shepperton and Weybridge. Friday night is a bit more busy on the roads but we can travel the 5 miles there on a Saturday in 12-15 mins, joining the A3 at Tolworth.

You don't want to make a mistake with David Lloyd though, not only do you sign up for a year but when you decide you want to go you have to give 3 months notice, and apparently they rigorously enforce it.

Blimey. Isn't there a more local one to you? Cheam? Epsom?

When we joined we were living a lot closer and moved a bit further away 3 years ago. Cheam and Epsom are closer but do not have indoor courts.

You might want to give them a call - I know Epsom has a bubble over two courts.

I was paying around £95 / month at DLL Brooklands , use to be a great club before David Lloyd took it over. Now it's just a sanatised corporate gym. Now a member of a local gym for £40 that has the same equipment as DLL and BMF for £35 and a triathlon club for £50 / years . The three offer much better value then David Lloyd

£87 per month.

It's a small gym in a nice hotel so the facilities are great and it's always very clean. The members seem to be nice and because the average age of members is 50+, it doesn't have groups of angry teenagers prancing around.

I'm comfortable with what I pay however I feel it's only worth it if I train at least 4 times a week.

£48.50 at DL, cheapest one in the country I believe. Use it 2-4 times a week, feel comfortable there so will not leave unless they get greedy again like they did 4 years back and most left. Also helps that 3 more gym's are within 1/2 mile.
