How much do you pay for your gym membership?
Discussion
PureGym, same as a previous poster - think it's something like £22 a month. Years ago I belonged to another local gym (with squash courts, pool etc.) - obviously cost more but the "gym" part was very poor by comparison - much smaller, with far fewer machines. Pure Gym is pretty good for the money - the only thing it really lacks is wi-fi - would be nice to be able to stream radio when I get bored of my music collection.

I used to belong to one of those. Good value and well stocked. Unfortunately the low price attracts some undesirables. The weights area can be like the wild west at times. I knew I was in a classy joint when I had to take a can of special brew off the bench press bench before I could use it. :-)
Same, great at first, but then it became absolutely rammed at all times, and the weights room could easily make it into the "a bit council" threadNow at virgin active, £62 a month
I used to be a member of 'The Gym' for £15, but weights were too light and too few, and it attracted too many innits.
Now a member of an Anytime Fitness gym. Their standard rate is £34.95, but I got a £5 discount for joining before they'd even opened, plus another £5 discount because I was invited by one of the PTs there. (He'd been my PT at The Gym). So £24.95.
A lot of people can secure at least a 10% discount through working for a local major employer etc.
No pool or other sports facilities. Quite weights focused, but has a couple of Watt bikes which are good, a dedicated spinning room (with virtual instructor as well as classes), and lots of other free classes for all sorts. Really good franchisee too, which goes a long way.

I've concluded gym life is not for me. It's back day today and I could use the trial membership, but I can't be arsed to go. I'd rather just train at home. Ironically, I have zero motivation to go to the gym, which is one of the things the salesman said the gym is good for.
(And before you ask, I will finish my training unable to do a single further rep and wake up tomorrow with back and lat pump.)

I pay yearly, last time it was £299 I think so ~£25 a month. That's a council leisure centre (but a nice one) and includes pool, morning squash courts, golf course, classes (if one was into that sort of thing) and various other stuff, pretty good value IMO.
And what you do while you're in the gym. I intend to get bigger and stronger so neither dog walking nor treadmills are going to be of much use to me.

I used to work for a couple of the bigger chains. Both fitness Managers held the same opinion that a 2 hour dog walk was better than a similar time spent in the gym!
Depends on your goals. And if you walked the dog up Everest or not. I used to work for a couple of the bigger chains. Both fitness Managers held the same opinion that a 2 hour dog walk was better than a similar time spent in the gym!

Exactly. I can only think the fitness managers quoted above are only thinking about weight loss and probably food avoidance.Hoofy said:
