I use the weights often 2/3 times a week and the treadmill when it gets really cold. Also use it to avoid the wife!
Definitely worth the money, then!

DL in Farnham - approx £110 incl Spa

Not cheap, but I get my moneys worth and the facilities are tip top.
How do you make sure you get your money's worth?

Also, at £110 that must include court use?

Presumably by using it frequently
Not just that, though - using all of it rather than just using the sauna everyday, for instance.

Doesn't really matter a st does it? He said he gets his money's worth which means using the services which are available.
It does. Case in point - I want a gym with an indoor tennis court. DLL charges £109 a month. That's basically £109 a month just to play tennis. Depending on where you are in the country, you could probably get a tennis membership for £30 a month with an indoor court.

Or for the sauna use, you could probably find a sauna in a Nuffield gym for about £60 a month.

Sadly, I'm not rich enough to own my own indoor tennis court.

I pay £122 per month for Mrs BC and I. Expensive but this does include an indoor swimming pool, 6 indoor and 3 outdoor tennis courts, exercise classes and the gym.
£61 each then. That's pretty much an average price. Which chain?

I use The Essex which is owned by Club Company:-

Actually, a country club sounds like something I'd like. It's like a gym but you get much more. Somewhere to hang out.

Was googling country clubs. Why does it cost more as you get older? Do they want to keep the ages down? They have tiered fees eg 18-25, 25-30, 30-35, 36+ getting progressively more expensive.

Is that legal in this age of age discrimination?
I hope not. biggrin

I am guessing the older you ae the more time you spend there...
I can't see that people in their late 30s have more time than people in their early 20s.

I have spent more time in my 30's playing golf than in my 20's. At Dorset Golf and Country Club smile (Not a full member)
Oh right.

How much do you pay a year? I tried to find a localish country club with a tennis court for about £100 a month. No such luck.

nuts And that's the problem I'm looking at as I am unlikely to use the gym, pool or spa facilities.

Been members for 7 or 8 years and never been to the gym, pool or spa. You can get a reduced rate for gym membership only (where they run loads of free classes), but not tennis. As it is the only indoor tennis facility in the area they have you by the short and curlies...
Ah, yes, well, that's pretty much where I'm at then. Also, they don't have formal social tennis sessions at my local DLLs, so the coaching sessions is all that's available for an additional cost! So the monthly cost would be £109 + 4 x £7.50 assuming I only do one session a week.

That does sound good.

I visited a DLL with tennis courts. Everything was £109 (about £80 without the tennis). I'm not interested in the classes, the cardio machines or the pool. I think the salesman died on his feet today as he trotted out his standard spiel to amaze. I struggle to see how anyone can be paying £80 for the pool, gym and classes tbh. Ok, it's only £20 a week but compared to Nuffield with similar kit at £60 and smaller gyms without a pool going for much cheaper rates (eg 20 a month), I'm unconvinced it's value for money. I'm trying to convince myself it's worth it.

Also, loads of kids running around made it feel the opposite of exclusive. It was like a Harvester on a Sunday afternoon.

Raynes Park?
Quite a lot of them have tennis courts! Raynes Park was one of the ones I've looked at, though.

Also, I am not the only person who seemed to have an issue cancelling my membership with them ....I wouldn't go back.
Oh, I hadn't thought about that aspect of it.

Used to be a very good club, but I'm sure others have caught up now.
Ah right. Yeah, I think they all have bubbles for winter play. It is very tempting except I'd never use the other facilities as I think I've already said. Plus none of them have social/mixed play so you have to do a proper coaching session ie pay an additional £7.50 per session. If you go twice a week, that's £169 a month!

I actually go to David Lloyd at Raynes Park. They have open social tennis at 7:30 Friday and Saturday and 4pm Sunday. All free (!) but run by members. If you are a racquets member you can go to other clubs anyway (apart from a select few) but can't book.
That's interesting - I did wonder if running my own social session was an option but tbh it should be done by the club! I don't have the time to be organising something else in addition to be running two businesses and a charity. wobble

Yeah, but that specific individual is another member, right? If they don't already have something at my closest DLL, then unless someone bothers to set something up, then it won't happen, right? So typically, it would end up being me as it always ends up being as most people can't be bothered to organise things.
