Thanks. I do too. smile

HR from the current job rang me this morning and asked if I'm happy to pop back in on Wednesday. They want me to do a handover, return any equipment, then bugger off for my notice period. They said they will pay me and also pay for any outstanding leave etc. Wow, what a result. smile

I think this stems from the fact that I asked them to forbid my manager from any further one to one meetings with me. Due to his attitude and bullying nature, I told them that I cannot sit alone with him in a room anymore. smile

Standard operating procedure for a disgruntled, leaving employee - get 'em on gardening leave pronto. Nice weather for it though!

Congrats OP. I was one of those waaaaay up the thread saying that the only sensible way out of this was to change jobs. Good luck with the new gig.

Thanks.

Have asked for an exit interview tomorrow to see everything off in a proper fashion.

Went in today for exit interview etc. Interview was very constructive and I gave HR loads of very useful feedback. Apparently, they weren't going to do one, but did so because I specifically asked.

Everyone seemed fine with me apart from my now ex manager and one woman I used to work with. He seemed really off, didn't want to even look at me at said at most two words. hehe The woman didn't even luck up from her desk when I said goodbye. rofl

I had five minutes with the MD where I pretty much re-iterated what I said in my exit interview. He asked if the company had failed me. I told him that the failing was with my line manager. I wasn't negative though and basically said that the working relationship couldn't function. I gave the MD loads of useful pointers for the work ahead, told him my thoughts on the job role I have left (stating it needs at least two dedicated people to run), gave him some pointers about the new system implementation I have been working on, and wished him well for the future. He seemed a bit sad by it all, but who knows what he really thinks.

Just before I left, the HR lady asked my manager if he wanted a handover. He said he didn't need one as they had been working fine for a few weeks now without me. hehe

A few hours later though, I had a call on my personal mobile asking where an email password list had gone. I replied that the list wasn't in my drawer when I cleaned it out earlier, and I had no idea where it was. HR lady said ok and hung up. Plonkers. They had a chance to do a handover and check these things, but my manager was being so childish that he didn't do it. It's their thing to worry about now.

Anyhow, that draws this chapter to a close. The only contact I should have off the current company is a payslip at the end of the month and my P45. The HR lady reminded me today that she will give a reference, but it will only be to confirm dates and times worked and job role. Brilliant!

Just a quick update.

New job starts on Monday. Looking forward to the change and the new challenge. Also looking forward to the five minute walk to work, rather than the 40 minute drive.

Been back on the bicycle for nearly two weeks and have started to lose some weight too.

I've had a lovely month or so off. Ready to get back into it now though (even though I'll miss my days with my family).

Thanks all.

I'm a heap of nerves now as it's all new to me tomorrow.

Really, really going to miss my family too as it feels like I have been off with them for ages.

Just find some handy phrases that disarm any tense moments... for the first few weeks people will forgive "I'm the new guy - I need your advice as to what works best here?", rather than "can you help me?"... for "this process is very different - could you talk it through with me and I'll take some notes so that I don't have to ask you again?"

Thread update. smile

Sort of diagnosed with general anxiety disorder a month or so ago. Awaiting confirmation of my next appointment to get the healing process started. These things seem to take time as my initial phone consultation was mid February.

In terms of work, the job I am in isn't great. Manager is awful (so awful in fact that me and my colleague are in the process of sorting a grievance with him), the place has been hit by a load of redundancies of late, and the only positive I can see is that it takes me five minutes to walk here.

Currently seriously thinking of pursuing a love of bike mechanics that I have recently developed. Fiancee has said she will support me if I leap and make a change of career (as income will be reduced etc.).

I purchased a new road bike in February and continuing with the riding is helping me. Work is an issue again though as I'm sat in the office each day with little to do, and my requests for training on the new system are being ignored.

Family life took a bit of a downturn a month or so ago when my fiancée and I fell out. Think the basis for it was my unhappiness, topped up with the touchy subject of a second child. Things have picked up though since I got medical help with my crazy brain.

Anyhow, as it stands, I'm looking at a career change as I'm well into a rut. We are also considering selling up and buggering off somewhere else. If we are to do this, it needs to happen this summer though as my daughter turns 4 at the end of August 2018.

Mental state is getting there, just processing the things that are affecting me. The road bike is amazing though (apart from some setup niggles) and really cheers me up. smile

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Once you are armed with the knowledge you might have a bit of a crazy brain (I got diagnosed with similar through work issues some years back) it does help. Don't be scared of a drop in income, or a change of occupation. Sounds like doing something you enjoy might be the key.

I wouldn't worry about this bit so much. Kids are very resilient to changing schools, etc and until they start getting structure/testing in the curriculum it is less of an issue than when they are, say 8+
