It's wonderful stuff !
I had a flare up of my gallstones last night and my usual meds of Naproxen and Zapain didn't kill the pain last night .
Over the next few hours the pain got to the level where I could neither sit lay or stand then the room started to tilt it was that much agony .
Called 101 who said it was an emergency and sent a response car with two paramedics .
The release from pain after one syringe full was fantastic, was a bit nauseous from the stuff but another syringe of stuff sorted that .
6 hrs of tests and x rays in A+E later and a dose of Oramorph later and I was good to go home .
Great service from the NHS even if they were very busy in A+E .
Not the best start to a birthday and I cannot drive for 24hrs as I would fail a drugs test .

Yup, definitely good stuff! But you won't be pooing for a while now! Morphine also slows the gut down

My daughter broke her arm last weekend. At the hospital they gave her some kind of morphine that was snorted up the nose. The nurse said it will make her quite drunk.

That combined with the gas an air gave us a 7 year old who was high as a kite. Not the slighted bit bothered by the bone sticking out her arm. When the Dr told her she had a Supracondylar fracture she accused him of "making that up". Looked like some good st.

Yup, Morphine is great stuff when needed.
But its not all fun and games when you form an addiction (which takes far leas time than you think).

My daughter had that when she injured herself too. She went from sounding like a mortally wounded animal to completely chilled in about ten seconds flat. Whatever it was it was wonderful.

My dear old dad was given an injection of it when he was in hospital .
He unfortunately he had a reaction with it .
He suffered severe paranoia, accused everyone of falsely imprisoning him ,he also had hallucinations.
Didn't recognise me or accept anything that I told him .
He was on Oramorph at the end of his life which gave him relief from what must have been severe discomfort as his spine and ribs had crumbled away due to that awful thing called cancer .
We had loads of it left at home when he had passed away and it was a bit of a challenge to dispose of it legally .
We could have made a fair few ££s on the dodgy side with the stuff.
I certainly could have used some last night !

My mum was on it also for her last couple of weeks. It did indeed space her out but I was happy it freed her from the pain and we had a few crazy chats before she went.

BTW, happy birthday mate wink

I have had 2 extended periods over the last few years using morphine, and other stuff including Tramadol for several months.

It certainly did the job but having been through 2 lots of withdrawl I have vowed never again. Reducing the dose gradually over a few weeks was fine, but that last 10mg dose of modified release is the killer. I can only describe it as massive pain & aching in my legs without it hurting, if that makes sense. Lasts 7 days then bobs your uncle. Addiction forms very swiftly.

I have been on a stronger drug than morphine for 5 years now. Says it is 30 times stronger per set dose. I wear Fentanyl patches. Change them every 3 days. I had started on the 25mcg patch and felt really out of it for weeks. But without these patches I would not be able to function. I was nearly paralysed and I have pretty bad spinal injuries that cannot be fixed. On these meds for life. It barely even touches the pain anymore. But I won't go up in dose as it has in the past on higher dose affected my studies and work.

Intra-nasal diamorphine

" Dose: 100micrograms/kg All children receive 0.2ml of the DILUTED solution regardless of age / size (see table one)"

any one over 10Kg can sniff 0.2 mls

very clever and useful in casualty

I'm on Tramadol at the moment for a disc issue in my neck and trapped nerve causing what can only be described as having toothache from shoulder to forearm in my right arm.

I'm prescribed 80mg every four hours, but I'm trying to get by on half that.

Did you notice any problems when you stopped taking it?

That's the stuff that Prince ODed on.

You injuries sound horrific, you have my sympathy - back pain etc is just the worst.

(Edit as I'm a bit spaced at the moment and can't spell/type very well hehe )

I had intravenous morphine on demand after both my spine ops. Terrific stuff, press the green button if illuminated and switch the pain off. I didn't even care when my vac drain detached..the bed looked like something in 'Apocalypto'.

I was on tramadol for 11 months whilst waiting for an op for my elbow.... I found it difficult to come off it tbh and my doc sent me for some counselling.. Nothing too serious but It took me months to leave it at home whilst I went to work. Don't get me wrong I wasn't using it but I always had a couple of tablets in my laptop bag etc..

I'm on fentanyl patches too, if you won't go up and they're not helping then why are you taking them? You'll only be getting all the side effect (low testosterone from long term opioid use, etc) without any actual benefit?

I started on the 25mcg/hr patches too and am now on the 100mcg/hr patches, each time I've gone up its not been without significant consultation but ultimately it comes down to a quality of life question, once it starts significantly impacting it then I've ended up going up, a big part of it was realising whether I was on 12.5mcg or 100mcg I was going to be on them forever and if I did come off them it's not going to be easy whatever the dose therefore increasing the dose doesn't actually mean much really.

20 plus years ago I was on intravenous morphine for a few weeks. I experienced hallucinations that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Like in the film Trainspotting, but less fun.

I get 110ml of 1mg/1ml methadone daily.

I've played about with Fent a few times and like you found it a bit 'heavy' at an equivalent dose.
Obviously I'm coming from a substance misuse standpoint but the experience is the same, have you tried equivalent meth?

Methadone is appallingly bad as a painkiller it's not that common in this country for that reason, the Americans love doling it out for pain though oddly..
