Right after the drinking too much thread, I'd looked at my expanding waistline and decided I'd better go on a diet. On balance I enjoy my food even more than my beer, so it's the beer that's going to have to be taken out of the equation if I'm to lose my gut.

So I'm hopping on the wagon for 3m until 20th Sept. Plenty of room on board if anyone else would care to join me?

I anticipiate a rather difficult first couple of weeks at this!

Big Al.

I've done this already and the weight literally just fell off in a few weeks. Unfortunately I didn't measure progress which, with hindsight, would have been interesting reading to share with others.

Perhaps you could provide a few progress reports along the way?

Good luck!

yes

I'm going to. I'm going to buy some scales at lunchtime. I'm actually quite panicked at the thought of not having a nice pint of cold beer later on. hehe

It really helped me to buy scales that tell you both your weight today, and the last time it weighed you. You can see daily (albeit small) progress. It's helped me lose 12kg in 6 months 😀

OK so last night wasn't an unqualified success, I did contain things to 2 500ml cans of lager and a small bottle of lager though.

I'll try again tonight.

I was going to join you in this, but my son turned up last night with a belated father's day gift, 6 assorted bottles of craft beer. I can't reject his gift but I'm just going to drink them one per night and I'll start the 'fast' properly on Sunday.

Come on gents!

I can assure you that loosing 2 stone and 6" off your waist is worth missing a few drinks for!

Those are just the starting benefits too!

I actually need to put weight on! 2 stone would be a good start to be honest.

As per the 'How much do you drink' thread, I'm on day 4 today.

I want to lose a few kg, improve my cycle racing performance and not lose my wife!

Have some alcohol free beers to hand for when you're tempted. Bavaria do two types, a hoppy lager beer and a weissbeer - both very good as alcohol free drinks.

I think I'd better go and get some.

The problem is I tend to drink beer after doing manual work. First night I'd mown the lawn so got thirsty. Last night I put the topper on the tractor and did some field mowing, then fixed a broken pump on our well, then cooked tonights supper after which before really thinking about it I'd cracked open a can of beer I found in the fridge.

Oh well I'll try again tonight. I'm not very good at the Wagon it seems.

Well two nights without whisky, 1 pint at the pub on Tuesday night at the Berkshire TVR monthly meet, and one bottle of Fosters Radler last night. Haven't slept at all well either night but need to stick it out I guess.

Seriously, does NOT being able to do without a drink not make you think "hang on, I can't control this"?

I had to give up drinking 95% of the time due to bad acid reflux. Now limited to a very occasional half a glass of wine (which has to be sipped very slowly) or a cocktail when away on holiday.

I miss a nice cold pint of cider but not drinking is no big deal really.

Day 6 and working away on my tod. Just had a Mexican meal with Diet Coke now off back to my hotel for cake and coffee.

No massive desire to drink.
