Planning a couple of weeks in southern Germany in early September... does anyone know of an decent hotels in/near the black forest. We also plan to drive the Alpenstrasse (German Alpine Road), so any hotels along that route would also be worth hearing about. Ideally the hotels should their own parking facility.

We haven't actually tried this one at Baden Baden but it looks good if you're going that way .

A friend and I stayed at this one a couple of years ago and liked it.

We're going down that way in mid October. I'm not familiar with the Alpenstrasse. Does anyone have any comments to make on it. Good or bad?

Here are some I have stayed at in past 2 years. All have their own private or secure parking:

Freiburg

Karlsruhe

If you can deal with a bit of German, this is a useful site, with plenty of hotel / b&b / itinerary suggestions:

We stayed in this one http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/schwaben.en-gb.htm... - lovely couple on our recent trip.

South of Baden-Baden we stayed here http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/gasthof-blume.en-g... - in the middle of the Black Forest, lovely place and wonderful food.
